• Volkswagen is eagerly preparing to unveil the highly anticipated new Golf GTI Clubsport on May 31, just a day before the thrilling Nürburgring 24-hour race.
  • VW’s new Clubsport will be the most powerful FWD Golf. The specifications are uncertain, however it may exceed the previous model’s 296 horsepower.
  • Technologically advanced, the new Clubsport is powerful. Better performance, a revised front end, new taillights, and a ‘Ring drive mode’ make it stand out.

On May 31, before the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, the 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport will undergo its first official tests. Since the number of Golf models available in North America has recently decreased instead of increased, we’re pretty sure that Volkswagen won’t release this Clubsport either.

The 2025 VW Golf GTI Clubsport will likely be the most powerful front-wheel drive golf

A strong front-wheel drive GTI

The last Clubsport came out in 2021, which was the 45th birthday of the GTI. The new Golf is coming out to mark the 50th anniversary of the first one. Volkswagen didn’t have much else to say, but they did say that the new Clubsport will be the most powerful front-wheel-drive Golf.

The 2024 GTI currently sold in the US has 241 horsepower. However, the 2025 model will have many improvements. The European version also has more power, with 262 horsepower, while the Golf R has 315 horsepower and a unique all-wheel-drive system. When it came to power, the 2021 Clubsport was more like the R. Its 2.0-liter turbo four engine made 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The better Club should meet or beat the previous amount.

In addition, the new Clubsport will look different from the GTI. The new model has new headlights and an LED VW logo on the front bumper. It also has new standard 19-inch wheels and a different set of taillights on the back. Warmenau wheels also come in 19-inch lightweight forged models.

Even though the updated Clubsport has yet to be seen without its concealment, the pictures that are already out there don’t leave much room for guesswork. Another thing that makes the Clubsport unique is a special drive mode that is only for runs on the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring. This addition makes sense, given where the car will be launched.
