• The 2026 Volvo EX30 becomes the first electric car to showcase Volvo’s rugged Cross Country trim.
  • The new EX30 CC comes equipped with standard all-wheel drive, an elevated ride height, skid plates, and optional all-terrain tires.
  • Volvo has not yet revealed the pricing, but we anticipate that the rugged subcompact electric SUV will be priced around $50K when it becomes available later this year.

It can be terrible to get to Lapland with Jack Frost, whose Swedish name is Kung Bore. People in that area start wearing down jackets that are too big for them, and the air is thick with breath. Noses turn blue, and the winters are harsh, dry, and cold. Temperatures below zero and roads covered in ice are just problems that the Swedes have to solve. As a national company, Volvo has a lot of experience making cars that can handle rough conditions. The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country is the brand’s newest all-terrain Cross Country type with four-wheel drive. The first electric model also wore the same sign.

The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country Transforms The All-Terrain Trim Into An Electric

Volvo’s First Electric Cross-Country Car

Cross Country was only used on Volvo station wagons like the V60 and V90. Their strong bodies, higher ride height, and usual all-wheel drive make them better in tough conditions and make them look more like SUVs, which makes them more appealing to buyers. Volvo has tried making more cross-country cars that fit more than one market group. The V40 Cross Country hatchback and the S60 Cross Country sedan are two examples. Not long after it came out, the S60 CC died, but the V40 CC lived for seven.

The EX30 Cross Country has the same electric drivetrain as the regular dual-motor all-wheel-drive car. It delivers an impressive 422 horsepower along with 400 pound-feet of torque. A 64.0-kWh battery pack gives Volvo’s electric motors a range of 264 miles between charges, the company says. Volvo says that the EX30 CC can charge from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes when it is hooked up to a DC fast charger and its electrons run out.

Of course, the Cross Country mix has stayed pretty much the same. It rides 0.7 inches higher than the average SUV. The small off-roader looks more aggressive thanks to its flared over-fenders, and the front and back skid plates protect the belly. In addition, the Cross Country EX30 has unique 18-inch wheels that can be installed with all-terrain tires for an extra cost. So, even though there is a new power plant, things are still going as usual.

Also, both the outside and the inside of the EX30 CC have a boreal look. The EV’s dark gray front and back body panels give it more depth than a simple black-and-white look. The front one gives it depth with a topographic etching of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. The EX30 CC’s door panels were made to look like a type of granite stone that is only found in that country. This is another way that it honors its history.

Volvo is giving away a “Cross Country Experience” package with the purchase because the company wants people to think of the EX30 Cross Country as more than just an SUV. The package comes with special deals on outdoor gear, like lower prices on the A/T tires we already talked about, a roof basket, and mud flaps. You can also rent a house in Swedish Lapland that is fully decorated to get a real feel for the area that inspired the EX30 Cross Country. Volvo says that if you book the cabin, which is open from February 21 to March 21, 2025, they will have a car waiting for you along with a plan of outdoor activities that will make sure you have the best Scandinavian winter possible.

When is it happening and what is the cost?

We expect the 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country to be released in the US later this year. Although the deployment schedule has changed several times since June of last year, US customers have finally started getting their regular EX30 Twin Motor Performance cars.

Standard EX30 cars were first made in Zhangjiakou, China, using parts from Geely, the company’s parent company in China. Because of this, they are now subject to new taxes put in place by the US government on EVs made in China. Since then, Volvo has moved production of EX30s going to the US to its plant in Ghent, Belgium. However, it is still not clear where the EX30 Cross Country is being built. The move might make it easier to bring goods while keeping the prices of the Cross Country and basic EX30 cars low.

Volvo hasn’t yet said how much the new EX30 Cross Country costs. It will cost more than the Twin Motor Performance trim. The Cross Country is expected to cost close to $50,000 since the base model costs $46,195.
