• A paper from the NHTSA gave everyone information about the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck before it went on sale in November.
  • According to the paper, there will be two and three-motor versions of the Cybertruck. The single-motor model, which was supposed to cost less than $40,000, must be included.
  • Based on the specifications, the paper also said that the Cybertruck’s gross vehicle weight rating will be between 8,001 and 10,000 pounds.

After years of delays, customers will finally get their hands on the first Tesla Cybertrucks on November 30. The car company said this last week. Even though Tesla hasn’t said how closely the production car will look like the first concept car shown in 2019, we still don’t know its exact specs. But a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) document that was first leaked on a Tesla website shows some details about the truck, like how the engines are set up and a rough guess of how much the truck weighs.

Figuring out Cybertruck

The vehicle identification number (VIN) for each 2024 Tesla model is broken down in the NHTSA paper. The text goes into great detail about all seventeen VIN digits, but two stood out to us.

The eighth number on the paper has two names for the Cybertruck. The first name names the vehicle’s motor and drive unit. “E” stands for a Performance model with three motors, and “D” for a model with two motors. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck that was first guaranteed and was supposed to cost $39,900 now looks like it won’t come out until 2024.

The sixth number is the gross vehicle weight rating, which tells you how much your car can carry when fully loaded. This includes the weight of the people, the stuff, and the car itself. The Cybertruck comes in two different grades: When it comes to GVWR, the letter “G” means 8001 to 9000 pounds, and “H” means 9001 to 10,000 pounds.

It doesn’t say how much the Cybertruck weighs, but it sounds like it will be more than 7,000 pounds, and some types will probably weigh even more than 8,000 pounds. The F-150 Lightning’s GVWR is between 8,250 and 8,550 pounds, the Rivian R1T’s is 8532 pounds, and the GMC Hummer EV truck’s is 10,550 pounds. What about the other trucks? The cars are between 1000 and 2000 pounds lighter than these numbers. More information should be available when Tesla sends out the first Cybertrucks at the beginning of next month.
