• The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which starts at $67,475, came out this month.
  • It has a sliding mode, an over-boost function, and “e-Shift” technology that makes it feel like you’re changing gears. The Ioniq 5 N has 641 horsepower and all-wheel drive.
  • The Ioniq 5 N is a powerful business car priced between the 483-hp Genesis GV60 Performance ($71K) and the 576-hp Kia EV6 GT ($63K).

In 2025, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N stands for many things. We saw the 641-hp all-wheel-drive car at a driving event on the shorter Korea International Circuit. It’s not only a wild ride, but it’s also the first electric Hyundai model to get the high-performance N treatment from the company. Hyundai’s most pricey car right now is the 25 Ioniq 5 N, which costs at least $67,475.

The N version costs about $24,000 more than the base Ioniq 5 with rear-wheel drive and $9,000 more than the top-of-the-line Limited with 320 horsepower all-wheel drive. If you’re looking for an EV that can handle the track, the Ioniq 5 N might look like a better deal than the other type.

The N-rated Ioniq 5 has many features that aren’t found in lower-grade models. The most noticeable is an electric motor that can produce up to 641 horsepower when the over-boost function, called N Grin Boost, is turned on. It also has a bigger 84.0-kWh battery pack, stronger Brembo brakes, and wider Pirelli P Zero three-season tires. The new Ioniq 5 is 3.2 inches longer and 2.0 inches wider than the old one. This makes it sit 0.8 inches lower and take up more road room.

The N model has a Torque Drift Kick feature that acts like a clutch dump and a drift mode that makes the car oversteer. It’s easy to guess what the N Active Sound+ function does: it makes synthetic gas engine noises. The N e-Shift feature makes the car feel like it has an eight-speed dual-clutch gear.

Some of Hyundai’s other high-performance EVs are sold by the Hyundai Motor Group, which also owns Kia and Genesis. The Kia EV6 GT with 576 hp costs $52,975 and is made by the old brand. While the 483-hp GV60 Performance isn’t as strong as the other models in the lineup, it is the most expensive at $70,900, which makes sense since Genesis is aimed at high-end buyers. When the strong Hyundai hits stores in the US at the end of the month, it will be in the middle.
