When it’s cold outside, many people wait for their car to warm up before starting it. However, this is only sometimes allowed. Some 2023 Honda HR-V owners were very angry when they found that their back windows had cracked on their own after using the window defroster. A lot of HR-V owners have already reported similar problems. Still, Consumer Reports was the first to write about it after an HR-V test vehicle’s back window broke in one of its reporters’ driveways. Honda says that a mistake in the making process happened when the heating element of the rear defroster touched a piece of the back glass sealant. It has been reported to American Honda that the rear defroster is causing a small number of 2023 Honda HR-V hatch glass to crack. Our research shows that the sealer used to attach the rear window to some cars may come into touch with the heater elements of the defroster while it is being put together. Honda says that using the defroster may cause a hot spot that damages the glass over time. But there has been no official announcement of a recall. Because of this problem, Honda is starting a program to update its products voluntarily and is doing everything it can to get the replacement parts it needs as soon as possible. This effort should start in April or May 2024. Honda is only asking customers whose rear glass cracks on its own to go to their local Honda dealer right away to get a free repair. Honda told The Invoice Pricing, though that once the product update campaign starts, dealers will check any broken rear glass HR-V owners have and repair it for free. Customers told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that there is usually a loud noise, and then the glass breaks. It could be dangerous and scary if this happens while you’re moving. Even though the glass is made to break into small pieces instead of big, sharp ones, pieces of glass can still fly into other cars’ back seats or the road. That is, don’t worry about scaring the driver to death when they are going fast. Honda’s slow answer may worry current HR-V owners, who have to wait until at least April to find out if their car’s back window is broken. It’s been two winter months, and you’re still worried that your back window will break at any time. Honda can give users some peace of mind before April.
