• Mercedes-Benz told the EPA that the new E-class wagon from the W214 generation will be ready in 2024.
  • The body type is only offered in the All-Terrain version in the United States. Our pictures show how a regular wagon might look.
  • Also, in 2024, the new CLE-class car and convertible will be available.

The three-pointed star’s goals for its 2024 model line in the United States are now precise, thanks to a paper given to the EPA. One of the most exciting things is the midsize E-class, shown as a car for the first time. But what about the E’s other types of bodies? Mercedes also wants to have those ready for the 2024 model year.

Notably, the new E-class wagon is coming back to the United States. Based on what we know about the sedan so far, our models show how the standard wagon would look. For better or worse, the only long-roof cousins of the W214 car that will be sold in the U.S. will be the E450 All-Terrain. Since the only All-Terrain package for the current Benz E-class wagon is for off-road use, it’s not surprising that Mercedes plans to keep selling only this improved type in the U.S. The AMG E63 type, which used to be sold in the United States as a wagon, is also a secret. The first AMG E-class car might not come out until 2025.

On the other hand, the E-class car and convertible will no longer be made after 2024. But don’t worry too much. The same EPA paper says that by the end of this year, both types of bodies will start to use the CLE-class label. The model codes C236 and A236 in the paper show that Mercedes has no plans to change the names of the current E-class cars with two doors. Instead, the name will be used for a new line of midsize coupes and convertibles.

If the information in this study is correct, the CLE-class should have three choices for its powertrain. The CLE will use the 255-hp four-cylinder engine from the C300, while the CLE450 will probably use the 375-hp six-cylinder engine from the E450. The AMG-tuned CLE53 will have the same straight-six engine as the current E53, which makes 429 horsepower. However, it is expected to have a few more horsepower.

When we asked Mercedes about the planned body styles and options for the new E-class, a company representative told us they couldn’t discuss future goods. It will be interesting to find out if the information Mercedes gave the EPA is correct. Mercedes’ plans could be derailed at any time by something surprising, like another chip shortage or something similar. The company wouldn’t have given out so much information about its 2024 model lineup if everything wasn’t set.
