• This Ford hot hatch has never been seen in the United States. It is being sold on the internet. Bring a trailer until January 5.
  • The Escort RS, which was the top model on the Continent, had a manual gearbox, a limited-slip differential, and a turbocharged engine.
  • This particular one, which is now for sale in Florida, was first sold in Spain.

The Ford Escort was never thought of as a high-performance car on this side of the Atlantic. The second-generation Escort GT from the early 1990s moved better than expected and had many Mazda parts. The rest of the Escort lineup was mostly cheap and dull. Not in Europe, where the Escort nameplate had a history of winning rallies, and there were a number of very tasty special versions to choose from.

The Find of the Day on Bring a Trailer is a 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo

This Escort RS Turbo S1 on Bring a Trailer is a cute little piece of boy-racer hooliganism from Hearst Autos, just like Invoice Pricing. The small hatchback with front-wheel drive has a lot of power up its nose and likes to speed up and turn the handbrake.

For Ford’s European operations, the RS badge has a long past that goes back to the 1970s. The title was only given to the fastest Fords, from the strong Sierra Cosworth to the rally homologation special Escort RS Cosworth. These two supercars are more powerful than this Escort RS Turbo. Its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine only makes 132 horsepower. The car still doesn’t weigh much more than 2,000 pounds.

Most Escort RS Turbos sold in the UK had right-hand drive, but this 1986 model is from Spain and only has 58,000 miles on it. A stainless steel exhaust and Recaro seats that hug the hips are some of the mechanical changes. The inside has also been recently remodeled.

If you add a limited-slip differential and a five-speed manual gearbox, you can turn a Diamond White Euro hatch into a little gem. You may also be in good company since Diana, Princess of Wales, owned an Escort RS Turbo before she died. Hers was one of the few black cars that Ford made that day.

Last year, a sale for the Princess’s Escort RS Turbo brought in an amazing $857,712. This one should be a lot cheaper than the last one because it has nothing to do with royalty. The sale ends on January 5, which is coming up quickly.
