You may not know much about the German engineer and businessman Hans Werner Aufrecht, even though his work is well known. Aufrecht co-founded AMG, a separate engine and tuning business that made upgrade kits for several Mercedes vehicles before the manufacturer bought it. Aufrecht announced last year that his business, HWA, was making modified Mercedes 190E cars based on the famous 190E 2.5-16 Evo II model. The first one ever made will be yours to buy if you have the money.

Aufrecht’s HWA Evo chassis 000 will be auctioned off at RM Sotheby’s Tegernsee on July 27. It is likely to get a high bid. Only 100 HWA Evo restaurant models will be made, and they are all gone. Right now, chassis 000 is your only choice, and it’s going to cost a lot more than the $775,953 that HWA wants for each of the last 100 cars.

The first Mercedes 190E Evo II restomod from the shop of the AMG founder is for sale

How is it that a restaurant costs $75,000? It’s not even close to being a restaurant. At first, the HWA Evo is just a stock Mercedes 190E. After that, HWA takes apart everything but the frame. This includes the engine, suspension, interior, and everything else. Then, a chemical bath is used to clean the bare base, and HWA is turned back on. Then it gets a big makeover, with new technologies inside and carbon fiber body parts with ridiculously big fender flares. Behind the wheel are four seats. The front seats are Recaro classics with four-point race belts.

The Mercedes 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 444 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque and uses a dry sump lubrication system powers the HWA Evolution. It replaces the Cosworth 2.5-liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine that the project was based on. An automatic Mercedes gearbox is not used with the V6 engine. Instead, a six-speed manual transmission is used. There are four-piston calipers in the back with 14-inch rotors and six-piston calipers in the front with 15-inch rotors. The lift system, automatic dampers, and four-corner double-wishbone suspension are all part of this, but it only weighs 2,980 pounds. Gearheads will love HWA’s large book with specs.

HWA has been making Aufrecht speed up Mercedes race cars for a long time, so he is used to them. The new 190E 2.5-16 Evo II has a more modern look and a more modern twin-turbo Mercedes engine than the old one, but this Evo should still do very well. That 100 rich people have already placed their orders makes sense. The first chance to buy one has passed, but RM Sotheby’s is giving you another chance.
