• Ford will bring another concept electric car to Pikes Peak at the end of June.
  • After the SuperVan 4.2 set an Open Class record in 2023, the company made a crazy version of the F-150 Lightning.
  • 6,000-lb-downforce F-150 Lightning SuperTruck: aerodynamic. Romain Dumas will expertly drive this innovative car.

For those who relish the thrill of the mountains, Ford has unveiled a new electric car display. Following the resounding success at Pikes Peak in 2023, when the SuperVan 4.2 shattered the Open Class record, the company is now set to make waves again with the equally audacious F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV pick up in the renowned hill-climb race. The potential for another record-breaking performance is palpable.

The Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck at Pikes Peak is a great example

Ford says the regular F-150 Lightning was the idea for the SuperTruck’s design, but the SuperVan was more similar. The van and the SuperTruck were both made with help from STARD, an Austrian company that makes electric rally and race cars.

Power numbers for the SuperVan 4.2 are not yet known, but it made more than 1400 horsepower. The SuperVan 4.0’s impressive 1973 stampeding horse output was created by the van that came before it. The SuperTruck should be in that area. Ford kindly shared (and brags about) its downforce numbers, which are said to have been designed to produce 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, which the automaker says is essential to the Pikes Peak effort.

Because the body panel is made of carbon fiber and the inside is empty, the display vehicle weighs a lot less than the 6855-pound production vehicle. That being said, the fast truck will probably have racing brakes, an FIA-grade racing seat, and racing tires to keep it on the mountain.

Romain Dumas, the seasoned driver who left his mark the previous year, will be back in the driver’s seat of the SuperTruck. His skill and experience, combined with the SuperTruck’s power, promise an exhilarating performance. Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 23, when the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will unfold.
