The 1800-hp Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 from Ford Performance is made to break NHRA world records. The Super Cobra Jet 1800 is a step up from the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, which has 1410 hp. The old car set the class mark with a time of 8.128 seconds and a speed of 171.97 mph in the quarter-mile. Ford Performance just showed off the electric Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 prototype. Ford’s original proposal, which resulted in the development of the Super Cobra Jet 1800, was based on the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 concept, which had been presented a few years before. Only the NHRA world records that the new car is trying to break are more ridiculous than its 1800 horsepower. In June 2021, the Mustang Cobra Super Jet 1800 will try to beat the 1400’s quarter-mile speed of 171.97 mph in 8.128 seconds. 1800 will also try to break the records for the fastest two-wheel-drive EV from 0 to 60 mph and the fastest full-bodied EV from 0 to 60 mph at an NHRA event later this year. The 400 more horsepower over the Cobra Jet 1400 comes from the same inverter and motor combinations, now connected to a new Liberty gearbox. The Super Cobra Jet 1800 also has new control and data-gathering tools, a redesigned battery system, and a rear-end setup. The battery system has been changed and made lighter by Ford Performance and MLe Race Cars. The car moves forward with the help of an updated MLe Race Cars rear end, a better PMR suspension design, and new, more giant Mickey Thompson drag radials. Mark Rushbrook, the global head of Ford Performance Motorsports, says that our changes to the car have made it much better. For example, we removed hundreds of pounds and raised the horsepower to 1800. Be clear: the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is a top-level hunter that wants to break some world records. Ford Mustang fans might be annoyed to see yet another electric car with the famous name but don’t let that worry you.
