Honda has said that for the 2025 model year, the Civic small car will come in a hybrid form. The company says that a hybrid Civic will come in car and hatchback body styles and have the same drivetrain as the hybrid Accord. When hybrid cars come out in 2024, they will be sold alongside cars that run on gasoline. Honda’s next step toward hybrid cars will be the 2025 Civic Hybrid, which will come in a sedan and a hatchback style. As part of its efforts to become more environmentally friendly, the business wants to switch to a completely electric lineup by 2040. However, it plans to fill the time between now and then by adding more hybrid products. When Honda released a hybrid Civic hatchback in Europe in April last year, we wrote about it. The car would eventually be brought to the US to replace the canceled Insight sedan. Honda must still change the European car’s drivetrain for the American market. It has a 2.0-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors that work together to make 181 horsepower. The 2023 Accord hybrid has similarly linked hybrid technology that makes 204 horsepower. We can only hope that this one is better. Honda still sees sedans and hatchbacks as essential parts of its business, even though people no longer want cars as much as they wish for light trucks and SUVs. Mamadou Diallo, vice president of automobile sales for American Honda, says, “The market has moved away from passenger cars. But Honda still cares about cars.” “The cars bring in younger, more multicultural buyers to the brand.” Honda is adding a hybrid powertrain to the Civic model line as part of its plan to get and keep younger buyers. Honda will start taking orders for its all-electric Prologue SUV this year. This is the first step toward making the rest of its lineup electric over the next few years.
