Now that Acura’s top-of-the-line car, the TLX, has been redesigned, it’s time for the three-row MDX. For 2025, the SUV gets a whole new look, including a huge 31-speaker surround sound system, better features to help the driver, and, well, a new face.

But let’s start with the outside since that’s what you’ll see first. Because the changes are so small, you could understand if you wondered where they are. The grille is almost the same as the last model, with the only differences being a simpler diamond-pattern inlay and slightly darker headlights. The most important change to the front end is a new lower fascia with much bigger air vents that make it look sportier. The back headlights have become darker. That’s all there is to it.

What’s different is felt, not seen, on the inside. Acura took the touchpad, which looked like it belonged to a laptop, out of the center console. This gave the 12.3-inch tablet a new user interface. Even though it caused a lot of debate, some people may be glad to see it go because they can now only use touchscreen functions. By taking out the touchpad, Acura was able to change the center panel a little and add more storage, USB-C ports, and a wireless phone charger that is easier to reach.

The sound system is likely the most interesting feature inside. Acura used to offer ELS audio as a premium choice, and it was usually great. Bang & Olufsen makes the Technology Package and higher trim versions of the Acura, which has an impressive 31 speakers. After about 18, I am still determining where Acura puts the stupid things. Do they have a title? Yes, of course! Twelve guests make up the headliner.

Most of the time, technology that is below the surface has made the most progress. New hardware has been added to the AcuraWatch 360 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). There is now a new front camera on top of the windshield, millimeter wave radars at all four corners, a new touch sensor for the steering wheel, and a front long-range millimeter wave radar behind the Acura logo. The improvements make Acura’s driving assistance systems better. These include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and the CMBS (Collider Mitigation Braking System). The new, better equipment, on the other hand, has extra features like Front Cross Traffic Warning, Collision Mitigation, and Active Lane Change Assist.

The MDX Type S now comes with the Advanced Package, which includes a frameless grille, unique 21-inch wheels, new Urban Gray paint, all of the ADAS technology we’ve already talked about, and a 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen system. It’s too early to tell how much the price will go up because Acura hasn’t disclosed any information about this yet. For example, the Type S without Advance costs $69,800, and the base price for the 2024 MDX starts at $51,500.

Invoice Pricing team already loved the 2024 Acura MDX because it had a lot of space, was cozy, and was fun to drive. For 2025, Acura fixed what wasn’t working so well and added a few extra fun things, but they kept the design’s good points the same. The Type S and base MDX will be for sale at stores in May.
