It has been revealed that the new Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will only be sold in Europe. The subcompact SUV is Toyota’s second foray into electric vehicles, after the bZ4X. The Urban Cruiser is more compact than the Toyota Corolla Cross, features a versatile interior, and offers an 181-hp all-wheel-drive option. This is Toyota’s second electric car, the Urban Cruiser EV. It looks a lot like the Urban SUV idea from a year ago, with a strange but cute design. The subcompact crossover is only sold in Europe. It shares a new electric frame with the Suzuki e-Vitara, another strange car that we don’t sell. The Toyota Corolla Cross is the company’s smallest new SUV, and you can buy it in the United States right now. It is 168.7 inches long, more than half an inch longer than the Urban Cruiser EV. The EV has a longer length of 5.5 inches, at 106.3 inches. The Urban Cruiser is about the same size as the Toyota Yaris Cross sold in other countries. Toyota says that the Urban Cruiser has two different powertrain configurations and the same number of battery choices. With the base 49.0-kWh battery, the front-drive model makes 142 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. With the larger 61.0-kWh pack, the top horsepower goes up to 172 ponies. The chemical behind both batteries is lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP). A bigger battery is needed for the strong dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that makes 181 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Toyota didn’t say how far the small Cruiser is expected to go on a single charge. The EV’s cabin doesn’t look like it was made on a budget. The main parts really do look nice. It comes with both a “squircle” steering wheel and a real stereo volume knob. Under the center console, there is more storage room. There is a 10.1-inch tablet with Apple CarPlay that controls the entertainment system and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster that faces the driver. The Urban Cruiser has a simple exterior, but its interior is very flexible. The back seats slide 40/20/40, so you can choose to put people or things inside. At the 2025 Brussels auto show, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser electric car will be shown to the public for the first time. Many of its design features could be used as models for future products made in the United States, even if they are too small to appeal to American consumers. It looks like the Crown and Crown Signia, as well as the new Prius, have “hammerhead” front lights. In any case, the American market would gain from smaller, more affordable electric cars that are bigger than the Urban Cruiser.
