• The Subaru Forester, a new car with many improvements, will come out in 2025.
  • The 2.5-liter flat-four engine has stayed the same, but Subaru says the platform is sturdier than before.
  • Subaru says that sellers in the U.S. will be able to sell the 2025 Forester in the spring of 2019.

At the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru introduced the 2025 Forester. Aside from the over-the-top claims of “all-newness,” the 2025 Subaru Forester has new sheet metal, a stiffer frame, and a bigger touchscreen inside. When it gets to dealers, it will be available in five trim levels: base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring. In the future, there should be a Wilderness trim and a hybrid option.

The outside of the 2025 Subaru Forester is different, but the inside is the same

To make the Forester look meaner from the outside, the body pieces have been raised above the wheel arches and smoothed out around the headlights. For headroom and brand recognition, the Forester’s upright interior has been kept. However, the edges of the revised grille have been pushed out to make the arrow-shaped LED headlamps stand out more. Even though the Forester looks like a box, its flat sides have many aerodynamic features that help move air out of the wheel wells and lower lift at highway speeds. One of these tricks is a fresh air hole at the back of the wheel opening.

The new Forester’s sheet metal is based on Subaru’s Global Platform. However, the platform is 10% stronger for 2025, thanks to an inner frame that better utilizes structural glue and welds. Subaru says the new chassis will make the Forester’s ride quieter, firmer, and easier to handle. When combined with better insulation inside and outside the car, the Forester should be much quieter inside.

The 2.5-liter boxer engine from Subaru has a face that makes it easy to spot. Most likely, you won’t notice that we lost two horses from the leaving model. The four-cylinder engine still makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, though it has less power. The torque is strongest at lower speeds. This should make the engine feel more nimble. The flat-four’s continuously variable transmission has a manual “shift” option with paddles on the steering wheel for better trim levels. The Forester comes with hill descent control, torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, and a dual-pinion electronic power steering system based on the WRX. These features make the ride more quick and consistent on and off the road.

The Limited’s wheels are 18 inches in diameter, the Base and Premium’s are 17 inches, and the Sport and Touring’s are 19 inches. The Sport’s wheels have a new bronze finish. The Forester’s ground clearance is 8.7 inches.

Most of the settings for entertainment and weather have been moved to a new center screen, which is still a simple step up inside. Subaru’s wipe-clean technology and scuff-resistant materials are still there, even though there is padding at the main contact spots. If you fold down the back seats, there are 74 cubic feet of room in the trunk. You can now tie down your things in the luggage area eight more times, and the tailgate opens with a simple swipe of your foot under the bumper. Whether the roof is low-profile or higher, roof rails are useful. The top of the new seat has been lowered to make it easier to see out the back and to give the driver better support for their hips and lower back. Automatic temperature control for two zones comes standard, and the Touring trim now has front seats that are heated and cooled.

As a selling point, every new car comes with extra technology, and the Forester is no different. The base model has a touchscreen that’s 7.0 inches, but better trims come with an 11.6-inch screen that can be used to mirror your phone wirelessly. Subaru has also improved its EyeSight driving assistance system so that it works faster and better in a variety of situations. Now that the Forester can see bikes and people better, it can use its emergency brakes. As an option, a 360-degree camera view is now available to help the driver see better.

Sellers will be able to buy the 2025 Forester in the spring of 2024. Prices haven’t been released yet, but we expect them to be significantly higher than the 2024 Forester’s range of $28,390 to $38,690.
