• The key fob for the 2024 Ford Mustang can be used to start the engine from a distance.
  • Even though the new Remote Rev feature is likely to make some people laugh and annoy others, it is just the latest improvement in the long history of the Mustang.
  • Ford also remembers the first key fob, which came out in 1994, the first key with two sides, which came out in 1967, and the factory remote start, which came out in 2015.

The 2024 Ford Mustang now has a critical fob that lets the driver revved the engine from a distance. This feature is called Remote Rev, whether you think it’s cool, stupid, or neither. This feature was talked about when the seventh generation came out last year. Still, Ford is bringing it back into the spotlight by posting a video of it in motion along with a list of what the company thinks are its most significant achievements. First, let’s see how this all works.

For Remote Rev to work, the person holding the Mustang key fob must first press the lock button once, then hit the remote start button twice. In the movie above, this is shown. To use the “rev” function, you have to press the “unlock” button first, then the “lock” button. When you repeat that action, the process is fully activated, and the revs go up to 3000, 4000, and 5000 rpm. The movie doesn’t show people clapping at Cars & Coffee or angry neighbors clenching their hands in anger.

What Mustang Did That Was Important

Ford wanted to give the first pony car a little extra style, so they made a key for the coupe model with a pony in 1965. This was long before anyone thought of starting their Mustang with a key fob or even knew what a key fob was. In 1967, Ford made keys with two sides that could fit either way into the tumbler. At the time, these key breakthroughs were state-of-the-art. However, it would be almost 30 years before any other significant changes.

In 1994, people can finally choose to order a Mustang with a key fob. As a follow-up, Ford introduced PATS, an inactive anti-theft system that works with a transponder in the key. The next big thing happened in 2012 when the Mustang Boss 302 became available with a TracKey that could be used to add software to the car’s PCM that made it run faster.

In 2015, the first model came out with a factory remote starting. In 2016, FordPass, a program that lets you control car features from your phone, came out. In 2018, a light that beats like a heart was added to the Mustang’s push-button start.

The electric Mach-E’s ability to use a phone as a key was the Mustang’s last key-related milestone before the release of Remote Rev. Will everyone agree that every important branch on Ford’s important family tree is right? It’s unlikely, given how hard it is to decide on things, but a 5.0-liter V-8 engine revving is a treat for the ears.
