• Subaru has said that it will no longer make the Legacy car after the 2025 model year.
  • The company says that the Legacy is no longer made because the market has moved toward compact SUV cars.
  • Only 25,510 Legacy units were sold this year, the same number as last year.

Get ready to say goodbye to another car. Subaru said today that they will stop making the Legacy mid-size car after the 2025 model year. The seventh generation Legacy came out in 2020. For the 2023 model year, it was redesigned with a more sharp front end. In 2023, sales went up by 13% year over year to 25,510 units, but as of March of this year, they had dropped by another 13% and were still well below the 65,000 units sold in 2016.

The Subaru Legacy Sedan will no longer be made after 2025

When Subaru opened a plant in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1989, it made the Legacy, which was the first car in the country that was designed especially for the American market. In the US, you could get the Legacy as either a sedan or a wagon before the fifth model came out in 2010. In the mid-1990s, an improved Outback trim was added to the Legacy. It was later turned into a different model, and in 2010, it replaced the Legacy wagon as Subaru’s only long-roof vehicle.

The company Subaru says that more than 1.3 million Legacy cars have been sold in the US. Before it was taken off the market, the car was Subaru’s longest-running model line. When Subaru decided to stop making the Legacy, it “reflects Subaru’s transition to electrified and fully electric vehicles as well as market shifts from passenger cars to SUVs and crossovers.” It could be replaced by an electric vehicle, but we don’t expect that to happen because Subaru is focused on crossovers for the time being. Legacy cars will go on sale in the spring of 2025, and the base price will be $26,040.
