Volkswagen has shown off the ID.7, an electric car that won’t be made until 2025. It has a 282-hp electric engine, runs on the company’s MEB platform, and has two different battery pack options. In 2024, people in the United States can buy the ID.7. Volkswagen’s electric motors and battery packs are improving in the 2025 ID.7 car. It has a bigger battery pack and a more powerful electric motor than the ID.4 crossover, so it should have a more extended range. Even though we’ve driven a prototype, this is the first time we’ve seen the ID.7 without its cover. In 2024, this brand-new type will arrive in the United States. The ID.7’s base engine will be a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive electric motor with 282 horsepower. At first, the ID.7 will have the same 77.0-kWh battery pack as the crossover in the U.S. This is stronger than the 201-hp engine in the RWD ID.4. The ID.7’s significant competitors, the Tesla Model 3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 6, are aiming for an EPA range of 300 miles, which is a little less than what the company is aiming for. VW says that other places will offer a bigger pack with 86.0 kWh and a WLTP range of 435 miles. It’s more than 350 miles on the EPA cycle, but Volkswagen is expected to only use this bigger battery pack in the U.S. for a more powerful (but less efficient) dual-motor all-wheel-drive vehicle. Even though the ID.7 looks like a standard four-door mid-size sedan, it is a hatchback with much room for cargo. The back seats fold down to make even more room for things. A new 15.0-inch tablet entertainment system has been added to the passenger area. This should help make the ID.4’s software less complicated. Also, the house is big enough for five people. As standard features, there will be choices for comforts like massaging seats, a driver assistance system that automatically changes lanes, and a head-up display that uses augmented reality. Later, we should learn more about the ID.7’s exact U.S. specs, such as the final price and EPA scores. It will be made in Germany, and American sellers should be able to get it the following year.
