• The Volvo EX30 will come out in 2025 and will be the brand’s smallest electric SUV. It will be smaller and cheaper than the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge.
  • The 268-hp rear-drive EX30, which starts at $36,145, has a range of 275 miles. There is also a more powerful but more expensive 422-hp all-wheel-drive car.
  • On the dashboard of the EX30 is a full-width soundbar and a single 12.3-inch tablet. Several materials can be recycled.

Chevy called the Bolt EV an SUV because most people with two good eyes thought it was a high-riding hatchback. But the Bolt will be dead by the end of this year, leaving Americans with few small, reasonably priced electric hatchbacks, sorry, SUVs, to choose from. This is what makes the 2025 Volvo EX30 so unique.

The Volvo with the smallest size

The Bolt is 166.7 inches long and 61.1 inches tall, while the EX30 is 166.7 inches long and 61.1 inches tall. But at 72.3 inches, the Volvo is more than 3 inches bigger. The fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge are smaller and less expensive than the EX30. Both are subcompact SUVs. Because the EX30’s length is only 104.3 inches long, it is only 6.5 inches above the ground. It can pull 2000 pounds, the same as the Recharge twins.

The EX30 represents the idea of an electric vehicle (EV) better than many other EVs already on the market, so the Swedish carmaker can market its smallest car however it wants. The GMC Hummer EV SUV, other four-ton monsters, and more electric pickup trucks couldn’t be more different. By definition, a smaller car needs less material to build, but Volvo went above and beyond to make the EX30 environmentally friendly.

To be accessible and last a long time.

Volvo says that the manufacturing process has been sped up by using more stamped body parts and that more recyclable and green materials have been used. The company also works with vendors who agree with its carbon-neutral goal, and most of them have promised to use only green energy by 2025. Volvo uses blockchain to keep track of critical raw materials that are used to make its batteries.

A Volvo official wouldn’t say whether or not the EX30 will finally be made in Volvo’s South Carolina plant like the more significant, three-row EX90 is supposed to be. The EX30 will be made in China, in a company that will likely use primarily renewable energy. So, it’s unclear if the EX30 will ever be able to get federal EV tax credits under the rules that are in place now.

Inside the EX30, people may see how Volvo cut back on processes to be greener. Unlike most cars, which have speakers all over the doors and interior, the EX30 has a full-width sound bar at the bottom of the windscreen that comes standard. It has room for seven speakers and frees up space in the door panels for more storage. It also uses less wire. Of course, you can add more Harman/Kardon technology to the stereo system as an upgrade.

The EX30 is complex, dull, and badly put together, like the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Instead, it is based on the stylish interiors of Volvo cars, which have upholstery choices like wool blend fabrics and recycled denim that are very appealing. Ambient lighting can be changed to draw attention to unique trim pieces on the doors and dashboard.

The centre console has a lot of storage space, cup holders that can be pulled out, and other valuable rooms for people in the front and back seats. Because the floor of the luggage area is flat, there is also a large glove box under the centre stack. The EX30 has 14 cubic feet of storage space behind the back seats, and when that row is folded down, it has 32 cubic feet of space.

Like Teslas, the EX30 has a single display in the middle that controls all important driving information, different vehicle settings, and entertainment choices. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is set up vertically, the latest version of Google’s Android operating system is working. The most significant change is that Apple CarPlay can now be used wirelessly. A Volvo spokesperson said Android Auto is omitted because the native system already has wireless features.

Charged Up

Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which is an electric base, is what the EX30 is built on. Volvo’s Chinese parent company made SEA. There are two different ways to power the little car. A single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version has 268 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The version with two motors and all-wheel drive makes 422 horsepower and 400 pound-feet torque. Volvo says it can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.4 seconds with the EX30.

Every EX30 comes with a battery pack that can hold 64.0 kWh. Volvo says that a fully charged single-motor car can go 275 miles while adding a second motor will cut that distance by 10 miles. The EPA still needs to sign off on either range grade. Volvo says that when the EX30’s battery is hooked to a DC fast charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% in about 27 minutes at a peak rate of 153 kW.

The EX30 shows that Volvo still cares about road safety. It has all the usual driver-assistance features, but it also has a notice to help keep you from opening the door when a motorbike or other object is coming up behind you. There is also a new driver-attention monitor that is said to be better at finding tired or sidetracked drivers. The EX30 is the first car to come with Volvo’s most unique automatic Park Pilot Assist system, which helps people who have trouble parking. It can figure out and do a broader range of parking situations, such as curved and fishbone-shaped spots.

It’s coming, EX30 Cross Country.

At last, Volvo will make a challenging Cross Country version of an electric car. Even though it won’t be out until 2024, the EX30 Cross Country will have many of the same features as its predecessors. Standard features include a higher ground clearance and parts that look strong. The car is easy to spot because it has a Swedish flag on the hood, black panels on the front bumper, and black panels on the back door.

Along with the black 19-inch wheels, there will also be a pair of 18-inch wheels that may have a more substantial tread. A Volvo representative said that the extreme BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires on the car in the picture above would not be used in production. On the other hand, the roof rack will be an extra that you can choose to add to the EX30 Cross Country.

People can now place pre-orders for the Volvo EX30 2025. The most basic Core model, which only has one engine, costs $36,145. Even though the company says that a mid-level Plus and a fully loaded Ultimate will round out the range, prices have yet to be announced. This will happen before the American versions hit stores the summer after that.
