2023 Volvo XC60 Overview

What’s new?

  • Changes to the name and look of trim levels
  • Plug-in hybrids will have more EV range and power.
  • The second generation XC60 will come out in 2018.

German car companies ruled the luxury SUV market for a long time. Even though each of these cars has found its place in the market, they all have one thing in common. The 2023 Volvo XC60 is one of the options for people who want to do something different.

The XC60 stands out from other cars in its class because of its unique Scandinavian design. It looks so plain and understated from the outside that it could never be confused for a BMW or a Mercedes. A lovely wool blend fabric is one of the unique upholstery options for the sophisticated cabin’s inside. There are also many distinct kinds of engines, ranging from inexpensive mild hybrids to powerful plug-in hybrids that can travel up to 35 miles solely on the power of their batteries.

Since Volvo makes the XC60, safety is paramount. All of the expected high-tech safety features are included, and the car did well in crash tests, which gives you even more peace of mind. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has even called it a “Top Safety Pick+.” For 2023, the names of the trim levels have changed, and some of their features have been changed in small ways. Also, the plug-in hybrid model gets more power and a more extended range on electric power alone.

The well-known BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are good alternatives to the Volvo XC60 2023. The mild hybrid lineup has less fun to drive, but if you’re looking for a family car, that’s probably not a big deal. Another choice is the bold Genesis GV70, the value leader in its class. If you’re thinking about any of these cars, give the XC60, especially the plug-in hybrid Recharge model, a close look.

Pros

  • Beautiful inside design
  • The second row of seats is roomy.
  • A large number of standard safety technologies
  • It’s a plug-in hybrid choice.

Cons

  • Not as fun to drive as most of its rivals
  • You might not expect a luxury crossover to have a firmer ride.

We recommend getting the XC60 Recharge in Plus trim if you have enough money. This plug-in hybrid has much more power and costs more than mild hybrids. However, depending on how far you drive, how easy it is to find a charger, and how much gas costs, you may make up for the extra cost in a few years through lower fuel costs. Otherwise, we recommend sticking with the standard hybrid drivetrain in the Plus trim and adding all-wheel drive if you live in a cold or wet climate.

Volvo XC60 models

Four trim levels for the Volvo XC60, a small luxury SUV: Base, Plus, Ultimate, and Polestar Engineered. There are also three choices for the outside: “Base,” “Dark,” and “Bright.” Base and trim levels are the same, but Dark and Bright are only available on higher trim levels. In the plug-in hybrid XC60 Recharge, the same trims are used.
