• The number of F-150 Lightning trucks that Ford makes next year will be greatly reduced.
  • Automotive News got a copy of an internal planning memo that said Ford told suppliers to get ready for about half of the amount that was first expected.
  • In a statement issued on Monday, the company stated that it “will continue to match production to customer demand.”

Because the number of electric cars (EVs) being sold is slowing down, automakers have cut their investments in EVs by a large amount. Ford plans to make fewer F-150 Lightning trucks next year.

There are rumors that Ford will stop making the F-150 Lightning

This comes from an internal planning paper that Automotive News got and wrote about. Rumor has it that Ford told its suppliers that starting in January, its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, will start making about 1600 Lightning each week. The ultimate goal is to make 150,000 Lightnings each year, which is about half of the 3200 cars that Ford had planned to make.

A report also says that Ford is making this cut to adapt to “changing market demand.” Because of this, the business said in a statement on Monday that it will “continue to match production to customer demand.”

Ford shut down one of the Lightning plant’s three shifts for a short time in October of last year, which affected about 700 people. The choice was made soon after the company added a third shift to the Lightning production line.

Ford is still selling F-150 Lightnings this year, even though they are being made slower. The company has sold 20,365 electric cars so far this year, which is 54% more than the same number last year. Also, 4,399 electric trucks were sold in November, which was the biggest number of sales from one month to the next. To understand how those percentages fit in with Ford’s better overall sales numbers, keep in mind that the company sold 190,477 trucks in the third quarter of 2023.
