• The Mercedes-AMG C53 will soon be available as a convertible. It will have up to 443 horsepower.
  • Rear-wheel drive and handling are standard, and a Drift mode can be added as an extra.
  • Soon, you’ll be able to buy the CLE53 Cabriolet in the United States.

Like how night comes after day, convertibles come out of coupes. We just got back from our first drive of the Mercedes-AMG CLE53 coupe’s softtop brother, so now is a great time to learn more about it. When it comes to the United States in the second part of the year, the CLE53 cabriolet will have most of the same features as the coupe.

This 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Cabriolet is fast and cool, It has a soft top

Mercedes is now labeling two separate AMG powertrains with the number 53. The CLE 53 cabriolet is the least powerful of the two. This means a 3.0-liter straight-six engine with 443 horsepower that is improved by an e-supercharger, a 48-volt electric blower that helps boost at low revs and gives the engine an over-boost function.

The engine has a 48-volt starter generator that can help out. It can make up to 23 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, but not more than the engine can handle. Also, the CLE53 cabrio can’t run on electricity alone like the even more powerful Mercedes-AMG E53 hybrid, which has 576 horsepower. Mercedes says that the CLE53 has a torque peak of 413 pound-feet. The over-boost mode can raise this torque to 443 pound-feet for up to 10 seconds. This car has the same nine-speed automatic engine as the coupe, but it moves with a torque converter instead of the clutch pack found in AMG cars with more power. Everything will come with an all-wheel drive.

Look more closely

The CLE53 cabriolet and coupe both have bigger fenders than the non-AMG version of the same car. The rear fenders are 3.0 inches longer, and the front track is 2.3 inches wider. The car looks more powerful now that the front bumper has a bigger air intake, and the radiator grille has been changed to have vertical slats. And a powerful fan on the hood. Only about a third of this is open, which would help cool the air down; the rest is closed off. There are exit vents in the front fenders and on the sides of the rear bumper. The gold trim makes them stand out, but they look empty. Isn’t it better for AMG to be real than fake? The engine is linked to at least all four exhaust tailpipes.

Mercedes says that the suspension settings are a little softer than those for the CLE53 coupe, but the usual adaptive dampers and steel springs are still the same. The basic rear-wheel steering system can steer the back wheels in the same way as the front wheels by up to 0.7 degrees when the speed is over 60 mph. This makes the vehicle more stable, and at lower speeds, it can countersteer by up to 2.5 degrees to make it more maneuverable. People who buy will also be able to choose the AMG Dynamics Plus package. It has a Race Start launch control system that cuts the time from 4.3 seconds to 4.1 seconds at 60 mph. The bundle also comes with a Drift mode, which is a surprise. This could mess up the driver’s hair.

The layered soft top that can be folded up and has sound-absorbing acoustic layers will come in gray, red, or black. The job can be done in about 20 seconds at speeds of up to 37 mph. Mercedes comes with an electrically controlled wind deflector that rises behind the back seats as standard. The front-seat passengers can also use the comfy Airscarf system. One more thing that makes this model different from the CLE coupe is that the 11.9-inch touchscreen in the middle can be rotated around a pivot point at the base of the device to cut down on shadows when the roof is open. A special coating is also put on the leather padding to keep it from absorbing too much heat from direct sunlight.

We don’t have the price yet, but it will be a lot more than the Mercedes CLE450 cabriolet’s starting price of $68,100, which puts it below the CLE53 AMG in the range.
