Most people feel both amazed and let down when they drive a GMC Hummer EV. It’s a cheap, pointless EV destroyed by its luxury, like the Hummer H1. We should have just switched to electric cars. But when North American Electric Vehicles does this, the car they make is better in almost every way, at least off-road.

These are the fight cries of an electric car with great features. The Hummer EV can have up to 1,000 horsepower, 16 inches of ground clearance, and an EPA-proclaimed range of 381 miles. However, the EPA will never back up this claim. Putting everything in one car does have a downside, though: it can only carry up to 205 kilowatt-hours of batteries, and each one weighs 1.5 tons. Because of this, its 9,000-pound curb weight makes it harder to control, less efficient, and more likely to hurt itself if it falls on the paths. That being said, this doesn’t affect NAEV’s H1 EVs because they are much lighter than the GMC.

This "cyber-Hummer" H1 electric car could crush this GMC Hummer EV off-road

NAEV’s “Cyber-Hummers” weigh between 4,500 and 6,000 pounds, depending on the battery’s power. The batteries range from 75 to 150 kWh. The Tesla-sourced packs, like those in GMCs, are placed low in the frame, and NAEV says they drive “two orders of magnitude better” than regular packs.

By putting power into Tesla drive units, Cyber-Hummers can make 1,000 horsepower. This is still enough to go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and it could even do wheelies. Those drive units can come with locking differentials, an amazing 18 inches of ground clearance, and a traction setting for off-road use.

The NAEV says it can travel up to 300 miles. NACS charging connections, part of Cyber-Hummers’ charging systems inspired by Tesla’s, let them connect to the country’s biggest charging networks. The vehicles also get brand-new innards with many touchscreens, which is good for iPad Kids.

NAEV says that conversions can be bought even without a donor truck and offers full turnkey solutions. You have to wait at least six months and spend at least $99,000, which is about the same as the GMC. Only 18 of them will be made the following year, and even though NAEV plans to triple production every year until 2026, there will still be a limited number. Especially when owners of Hummer EVs use trust assets to get a spot in line.
