German luxury carmakers will feel bad about what they did when they see Changan’s new EV. For years, German automakers have been combining coupes and SUVs to make sleek new cars like the Mercedes GLE Coupe and BMW X4. The new Changan Qiyuan E07 is better than all of them. It looks like a coupe SUV but is actually a pickup truck.

This EV looks great because it's shaped like a pickup truck

Even though it doesn’t look like an SUV, it has a Cybertruck-like trick up its sleeve. The back looks like a normal back end, but it’s actually a tailgate that folds down to show a truck bed, and the rear window goes back into the roof. Car News China says that the Qiyuan E07 will come with either a single or two motors, which will let it have both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The car with one motor will have 338 horsepower and a top speed of 125 mph. The car with two motors will have 590 horsepower. We need to find out how big or far the battery can reach.

It also looks pretty good. The glass on the back of the trunk is a nice touch, and the front end is simple but nice, with a big LED light bar. The Hyundai Santa Cruz looks a lot like this car’s body. At first glance, it looks more like a stylish SUV than a truck. The size and shape of the bed also make it look like it wasn’t meant to be a tough, useful pickup truck but rather a fancy food hauler. It should work perfectly for someone who regularly packs their bikes or camping gear in their car.

Since the Qiyuan E07 has Lidar and other cams for self-driving, it should be able to do some pretty advanced things on its own. It needs to be clarified when or how much the E07 will cost, but it’s exciting to see that Changan will start making a production-ready version of their CD701 concept car in 2023.
