• The public has seen the Pontiac G8 concept for the first time. It shows what could have happened to the company if it had kept going.
  • The prototype has a smooth look, leather-wrapped upholstery, and fenders that stick out.
  • GM also showed off a Cadillac concept car that looked beautiful and had a big hood.

In the past, cars have had many failed businesses and once-famous brands that disappeared or were suddenly taken off the market. Pontiac is one of the most loved companies, but it no longer exists because General Motors went bankrupt in 2009. The big American car company released the G8 idea, which may be a Pontiac from the 2010s but has yet to be shown.

This idea for a 2008 G8 sedan could have saved Pontiac

There wasn’t a lot of information shared about the proposal, which GM Design calls “a fully functioning vision of the future design language.” The G8, a big car made at GM’s Advanced Studio in California in 2008, is said to have been meant to replace the G8 based on the Holden Commodore, which was sold from 2008 to 2009.

With its strong stance and noticeable wheel arches, the G8 form looks very athletic. The G8’s vertical headlights look a lot like Cadillac’s, but they are a more dramatic take on the angular twin-grille style that was popular across all Pontiac models in the 2000s. Huge chrome wheels cover every inch of the wheel wells, and the rear windshield is set back into the sloping rear walls.

GM also shared information about the G8 concept’s beautiful brown leather-covered and patterned interior. Chrome accents the dashboard and door panels, and light brown paint is used on the footwells and seat backs. The G8 doesn’t seem to have a center screen or analog numbers behind the thin steering wheel, but it still looks futuristic overall.

The G8 concept car that moves itself also made its appearance at the 2024 EyesOn Design auto show. It came with a lot of other interesting ideas.

At the 2024 EyesOn Design show, a beautiful Cadillac coupe was shown as a vintage GM concept car. Inside the design study, the two-door Caddy is just called the “expressive coupe” because of its tall hood, chiseled face, and swoopy interior.

Thin LED headlights are between the wide grille, and the hood has lines that move back across it. The design looks like a 2018 patent for a Cadillac coupe that was never made. This suggests that Cadillac may have given the car a lot of thought before deciding not to make it.

We’re glad to finally see what Pontiac and Cadillac were working on behind closed doors, even though neither of these ideas will be made.
