The Toyota Tacoma X-Runner is returning, if only as a concept car. The track of the ideal truck has been made longer, and the suspension has been dropped. The truck has a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine was changed from the bigger Tundra. It has 479 pound-feet of torque and 421 horsepower. Toyota’s mid-size Tacoma pickup truck is known for being able to go off-road, but this idea truck at the 2023 SEMA show in Las Vegas caught our attention because it was meant to be used on the street. For the 2024 Tacoma sport truck, Toyota brought back the X-Runner name. This version had more power and a lower suspension, among other things. The twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine from the bigger Tundra powers the Tacoma X-Runner concept car. In this form, the engine makes 421 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, which is a big boost over the 326-hp four-cylinder hybrid that is the most powerful version for the 2024 Tacoma. The torque is sent to the back wheels by an automatic locking differential and a solid axle from the Tundra with a 4.30:1 final drive. The exhaust line is now going to the area on the truck side, just below the rocker panel. Behind the new skin is the Tundra’s air suspension, which Toyota says lets the Tacoma ride lower while still pulling a trailer. The lower stance of the Tacoma made the engineers who made it change the length of the control arms as well. Toyota also made the structure stronger and added about three inches to the width of the track. The springs and shocks are 2.5 inches and 2.5 inches in each corner. 21-inch carbon fiber wheels from Lacks Enterprises with forged aluminum cores are paired with Michelin 285/45R21 Sport Tires. The show truck is painted the same Speedway Blue color as the first Tacoma X-Runner, which debuted at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show. We are unsure if this means a production model of this car with a similar speed package, but we hope to see something similar on the market soon.
