Only 6000, or 1%, of the 600,000 Camrys that Toyota sold last year went to Japan. So, the fact that the car died after 43 years is not such a big surprise. A Camry can still be bought in the United States. In 2022, Toyota sold 295,200 Camrys, almost half of all cars sold. Toyota has sold more than 21 million cars in more than 100 countries. At the end of the year, Toyota will stop selling the Camry sedan in Japan. This will be the end of a 43-year run. The numbers suggest that Toyota will only be able to trade 6,000 Camrys in its own country in 2022. The Camry will still be sold in the US and other international markets. Last year, Toyota sold 600,000 cars in the US and other global markets. Even though the market in the US is changing, more than 295,000 of those were sold in Japan. Nikkei Aisa says that small cars are losing ground to SUVs and minivans in the Japanese auto market—people in the United States like trucks and SUVs. Toyota still sells sedans like the Century, Corolla, and Mirai in Japan and several smaller cars. Toyota informed its dealers in Japan via a letter that the production of the Camry for the Japanese market would end by the end of the year. As sales go down, most dealers have stopped getting orders for Camrys. But they want to sell you that brand-new Crown car on the lot. The Nikkei called the Corolla “Toyota’s global strategic car.” This car and the Corolla are perfect for the end of sales of the Camry in Japan. Since it came out in 1980, Toyota has sold more than 1.3 million Camry sedans in Japan. The car has been made for ten generations, and over 21 million of them have been sold in more than 100 countries. In the United States, almost 13 million Camrys have been sold. The base price of the 2023 model is $27,315, and it is the same comfortable and affordable mid-size car that customers have come to love. The current model is available as a hybrid or with a V-6 in the TRD trim. It also comes with several standard safety technologies. Even though the Avalon will no longer be made after 2022, the United States won’t be the only place a Toyota sedan will be gone. This year, Toyota also showed off a new Crown in this area.
