• The CRX Si was one of Honda’s most popular cars because it was straightforward, fun, and honest.
  • Don’t miss this chance—it’s one of those cars that’s getting harder and harder to find.
  • It only has 24,000 miles on it and is in great shape, making it the most beautiful one you can find.

Around the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, Honda cars were like gold. The company made almost everything better than average, from the almost exotic perfection of the NSX to the everyday joy of having a mid-range Accord. One of the best-performing small cars on the market was the Civic, especially the faster Si version. Honda made things better by cutting the length by more than eight inches, which led to the CRX, a truly amazing car.

Today, the Honda CRX Si from 1991 is our "Bring a Trailer" pick

If you want to buy an almost-perfect 1991 CRX Si, you can do so at auction through Bring a Trailer, which is part of Hearst Autos and also owns Invoice Pricing. Not surprisingly, it’s painted red, Honda’s official company color and it has 23,000 miles on it. Just look at how cute and naughty it is with its docked tail. Some cars are faster than others, but not many can compare when it comes to fun.

For example, the CRX, the Volkswagen GTI from the first generation, and the Toyota MR2 are all cheap cars that people still enjoy driving. People have such fond memories of these tiny pocket rocket Hondas that they are in high demand as rarities right now—maybe even more so than a museum-quality exotic that you can’t drive.

In contrast to the first generation of the CRX, which used less gas, Honda got bored with the second generation of the car quite quickly. Like the first-generation NSX, it weighs a little more than 2,000 pounds and has double-wishbone suspension on all four wheels. At launch, this Si model’s 1.6-liter engine only made 108 horsepower, but that only meant you had to rev it all the way to redline to keep your speed in turns. That’s why it’s so nice to drive a CRX.

It’s very satisfying to drive a CRX from this age because it’s small and easy to see. This car will be missed a lot. It has great seats, a comfortable five-speed manual gearbox, an interior without touchscreen distractions, and manual steering. Honda stopped making the CRX in 1991. The Del Sol and CRZ were successes, but Honda couldn’t find the magic again.

But if you want to go back in time, this Honda from the golden age is about as good as it gets. This one-owner car has low mileage and looks almost brand new. The only damage is a few small rock chips. It’s ready to go, and it comes with all the papers from when it was bought.

Times have changed, so Honda probably couldn’t make another car as simple and useful as this CRX, even if it wanted to. It’s even worse that most of these cars are no longer on the roads where they used to be common. In this state, finding one is like finding a unicorn-leprechaun mix.

So, take advantage of this chance. If you want to get this CRX for that much money, you’ll need the Midas touch. Go to Bring a Trailer and make your offer. The sale ends on August 28.
