• In line with the advertising slogan, this is a new generation of Oldsmobile, distinct from what your father (or grandfather) drove.
  • Equipped with a 190-hp Quad 4 engine and a five-speed manual transmission, this Achieva is a legitimate sport compact.
  • The rare SCX package offered additional performance enhancements.

Imagine a car with the following features when you close your eyes: That is, from the 1990s onward. The front wheels get the power. The four-cylinder engine that powers it is very loud. It has strong anti-roll bars and a strong suspension. There is a clear homologation. Expand your eyes and lean forward. I picked out a certain Acura Integra Type R, right? Unfortunately, that’s an Oldsmobile.

Today's Selection On Bring A Trailer Is A 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva SCX

The last three letters of this 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva SCX for sale on Bring a Trailer indicate that something truly amazing is going on. Almost every performance upgrade GM could make was put into this Achieva. It was made as an order-form cheat code to participate in showroom stock racing series like the IMSA Firestone Firehawk.

Oldsmobile, as a brand, mostly made cars for people like Grandpa Simpson, but the company stayed true to its race roots in the late 1980s and early 1990s. For instance, racing great A.J. Foyt set a closed course record of 257.123 mph in the experimental Oldsmobile Aerotech ST on the Firestone test track in 1987, going faster than 290 mph in a straight line.

An Achieva-based turbocharged Quad 4 engine powers the Aerotech. It has a capacity of 2.3 liters, four valves per cylinder, and double overhead cams. It makes 190 horsepower. The 2002 Olds has 30 pound-feet more torque than the 1998 Integra Type R’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 195 horsepower.

The Achieva SCX in question has the optional FX3 suspension package, which has electrically adjustable dampers and stiffer front and back anti-roll bars. The first owner of this car paid $1379 for extras like air conditioning and cruise control. But if you wanted a showroom-stock racer, you could get the C41 package, which removed everything but the limited-slip differential.

Only 1650 of these Oldsmobiles were made between 1992 and 1993, making them very rare. That being said, the engine is strong, up to 7000 rpm, and the car handles much better than you would expect from an Oldsmobile. Your neighborhood auto show with a 1990s theme would be a huge hit, with people saying, “I didn’t even know this existed!”

This sale ends on October 14, with no bids being taken.
