Toyota said on Wednesday that it is recalling about 280,000 cars because they may “inadvertently creep forward at a low speed” when the transmission is in neutral. The company says that even though the transmission is neutral, some of its parts might not stop working, which would let power go to the wheels. This state might make it more likely for an accident to happen.

Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX600 cars made between 2022 and 2024 are being recalled. Despite this, Toyota did not say in their announcement which models of the possibly dangerous cars would be affected. In addition, it didn’t say which part of the transmitter might be broken. But it looks like the problem is with the program instead of the hardware. Toyota and Lexus dealers will fix the problem by giving free software updates to the transmissions of any cars that are affected. Owners who are impacted by the recall should be notified by the end of April 2024.
