• Toyota has said that 381,000 Tacomas from the 2022 and 2023 model years will be recalled.
  • The recall is because welding debris on the rear axle could come loose and fall off the bolts that hold it in place, making an accident more likely.
  • Toyota shops will replace or fix any axle parts that are broken. They will also check the retaining nuts and tighten them again for free.

Toyota is calling back 381,000 Tacoma pickup trucks from the 2022 and 2023 model years to fix a possible problem with the rear axle. A statement from the manufacturer says that welding debris left on the back axle “may cause certain retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off.” This could make the truck less stable and less good at stopping, which would raise the risk of a crash.

The recalled trucks will be checked by Toyota dealers, who will fix or tighten any loose nuts at no extra cost to the customer. Toyota also said that sellers will fix or replace any axle parts that are broken.

There have yet to be any documents on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, but they should be there in a few days since the company just announced the recall today.

In April of this year, Toyota said that truck owners who are affected will get letters in the mail. As soon as the NHTSA website posts the recall, anyone who thinks that their 2022 or 2023 Tacoma might be affected should go to the recalls page or the Toyota owner’s website.
