• Toyota has said that in 2023 and 2024, it will recall about 55,000 Prius and Prius Prime cars in the United States.
  • The rear door locks aren’t working right because of a water leak, which could cause them to open by accident.
  • Toyota wants owners to leave their automatic door-locking system on until early June when the company will let them know.

Toyota is calling back about 211,000 cars, including 55,000 Prius and Prius Prime cars in the US, because of a problem that could let the back doors open while the car is moving. According to the maker, water can get into the electronic back door latches and possibly cause a short circuit. If you don’t lock the doors, they could open on their own while you’re moving or during an accident.

Toyota Prius Recall: Possible Fly-Open Back Doors

Toyota says that owners should always use the automatic locking feature, which locks the doors when the car is moved out of the park until the recall can be planned, even though the company doesn’t have a fix for the problem yet. The recall will be announced in early June, and customers will receive free switches for both rear door openers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) recall website still needs to have a recall report available. However, Toyota advises owners to check the status of their cars on the automaker’s recall website.
