• Toyota is showing off two electric concept cars at the Tokyo auto show. The FT-Se is a sporty car, and the FT-3e is an SUV.
  • The FT-Se caught our eye because it was low to the ground, comprehensive, and had two seats.
  • Both of them will be shown for the first time later this month, and we expect them to become production models in the future.

Toyota has been thinking about making an electric sports car for a long time, and the dream is approaching. Later this month, the FT-Se concept car will officially appear at the Tokyo Motor Show. It looks like the low-slung EV performance coupe we’ve been waiting for.

The two teaser pictures show that the FT-Se has a mean look, with big front and back tracks, interesting-looking taillights, and fins that may help with aerodynamics. The GR symbol for Gazoo Racing is easy to see on the back ducktail spoiler. There are a lot of screens inside the dashboard, and the steering wheel looks like it has a yoke-style controller like the one in the Lexus RZ.

We are still determining what this new sports car is built on, but Toyota says it will be similar to the FT-3e, a small SUV concept car that will be shown soon. The company will likely create a new EV base supporting several new electric cars.

The bZ4X is the only EV that Toyota sells in the US, so the FT-3e is still valid even though it’s less exciting than the sports car. The FT-3e could replace the bZ4X if it is about the same size as what we can see in the pictures. Toyota has yet to give us a lot of information, but the outside doors of the Toyota have digital screens that show you things like the battery charge and the temperature inside the car as you approach it.

Later this month, these Toyota concept cars will be shown for the first time at the Tokyo Motor Show. After that, we’ll know a lot more about them.
