From the idea stage to the finished product, a new car goes through many design changes before it leaves the plant. An entire team of designers is needed to make a car that appeals to its target market and, ideally, looks better than the other cars in its class. Also, these designers must ensure that the outside and inside designs meet the needs of safety experts, product managers, and engineers. It’s interesting to see how some cars that have loyal fans and are part of motor culture today began in very different ways.

In honor of its 50th anniversary, Toyota just opened the doors to its CALTY design lab and spoke about this method. In 1973, CALTY began in El Segundo, California. It later moved to Newport Beach. Since then, it has significantly affected some of Toyota’s most important cars. The crazy FT-1 idea, which turned into the current Toyota Supra, and the 2006 Scion FUSE idea were made by CALTY, a company that has been around for a long time. When we recently went to the design office, we saw designs that had never been seen before. These included an alternative MkIV Toyota Supra and the first FJ40. We also saw CALTY’s newest “Baby” Lunar Cruiser, a Toyota LandCruiser that has been changed to explore other planets. You can get everything right here.
