• Toyota has come up with two new ideas for electric vehicles for the European market.
  • The first is an idea of a small SUV that probably wouldn’t sell in the US because it’s too small.
  • The second one is interesting because it looks like a mix of a sedan, a hatchback, and an SUV. In some ways, it’s like the Crown-raised car.

Toyota only has one electric vehicle model available in the US right now, and that’s the bZ4X. However, the company likes to tell us that it is working hard to make the bZ range bigger soon. The newest concept cars are made for the European market. However, the Sport Crossover and Urban SUV models shown here could affect future electric cars that come out in the US.

Toyota's new EV concepts include a small SUV and a sedan with a high roof

With a length of only 169.3 inches, the city SUV concept that looks chunky might need to be bigger to sell in the US. It’s a lot smaller than the Corolla Cross, which is Toyota’s smallest compact on the US market right now. But it will soon be made for the European market, with two battery options and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The name isn’t known yet, but based on how big it is, it’s bZ2X. This model is less likely to be sold in the United States than the bZ3X idea, which looked a lot like this model but was a bit bigger.

The second idea, called the Sport Crossover, looks better and fits in between a car, a hatchback, and an SUV. It has a long wheelbase, a swoopy back end, and a low roof, just like the Crown sedan with a raised roof. This idea came about when Chinese carmaker BYD and Toyota worked together. This year, it was initially presented for the first time in China. This model is expected to be called the bZ5 because Toyota already sells a smaller sedan with the same name in China. Though, no one knows if Toyota will bring this car to the US.

In about a year, you should be able to find out more about Toyota’s next electric cars. The company says it wants to have six battery-electric cars on the market only in Europe by 2026. We’re interested in learning more about what’s in store, even though similar EV starts in the US are likely to be pushed back.
