• The Atlas Cross Sport 2024 gets the Basecamp upgrade, making the mid-size SUV’s outside look rougher.
  • As part of the makeover, 17-inch Traverse MX wheels and satin silver and matte black exterior highlights were added.
  • There are cheaper ways to add to the Atlas Cross Sport Basecamp bundle, which costs $2774 ($4034 with wheels).

These days, everyone wants a mid-size SUV that looks like it would be at home on the Rubicon Trail. Are they even trying if a car company doesn’t make a “Wilderness” model or a “Rock Creek Edition”? Volkswagen‘s answer is the Basecamp line of accessories, which can now be found on the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport.

The Basecamp Kit gets bigger

Since the 2020 model year, Atlas owners have been able to get Basecamp add-ons. The idea came from the Atlas Basecamp at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. The authoritarian Peak Edition model was also based on this idea. The lower bumper and body-side moldings are silver, and the 18-inch wheels and all-terrain tires are black. It comes with a unique look package.

VW hasn’t confirmed an Atlas Cross Sport Peak Edition because Basecamp add-ons were not offered with the sloped-back model. Customers can choose from a complete dealer-installed kit or individual parts, such as a lower front bumper that looks like a skid plate ($680), a lower rear bumper that looks the same ($680), ribbed satin-silver trim on the more down body sides ($769), and matte-black fender flares ($645).

You can also buy a set of 17-inch Traverse MX wheels in radiant silver or iced graphite. It costs a total of $1260 for these 1552 10-spoke wheels. You can only get those wheels for that price, though. There will be an extra charge for the tires, which VW suggests going with 245/70R17 all-terrain tires.

The price of Basecamp

The complete kit can be bought for $2774 ($4034 with the 1552 wheels) to make your 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport look as tough as possible. Beginning with the all-wheel-drive SE with Technology trim level, which costs $43,905, it will likely be offered. The SEL starts at $48,785. Atlases that don’t have a trailer hitch or R-Line types shouldn’t use the Basecamp attachment.
