Toyota says that the 2024 Land Cruiser is now showing up in American stores. The base 1948 Land Cruiser costs $57,345, and the First Edition starts at $76,345. We now know more about when this highly anticipated SUV will go on sale, and people are already waiting in line at Toyota shops across the country to get on the waiting list for the new 2024 Land Cruiser. A representative from Toyota told Invoice Pricing that stores are now getting the Land Cruiser First Edition (shown above). The first 5,000 Land Cruisers that came to the United States looked like this type. Toyota says that “all transactions are handled through our dealers,” which means that they don’t take reservations from businesses. Even though we found a few Toyota shops that accept reservations over the Internet, customers should know that this is not allowed by company policy. The Land Cruiser’s MSRP is “suggested by the manufacturer,” and the First Edition costs $76,345 plus the needed destination charge. Based on what the company says, the real prices of transactions will be “the result of interactions between the customer and the dealer.” Price gouging would likely happen with a new car in this class, but Toyota says that local sales offices should be “aware of transaction prices and consult with dealers as needed. How do I look? How do you get one of the first new Land Cruisers? A dealer who didn’t want to be named said that Toyota would decide how many Land Cruisers to make based on how many 4Runners had already been sold. Based on this, retailers will likely get more new Land Cruisers if they sold more 4Runners before. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are in the Southeast, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas are in the Gulf States, and the Denver, Colorado area is in the middle. To put it another way, these states are where you should look to find shops that will get the most new Cruisers. What about the changes that cost less? Please wait a little longer. The $57,345 1958 trim and the $63,345 Land Cruiser trim are the next two less expensive Toyotas to hit the market. Our Toyota source told us that there “will not be a large lag” before these cars hit showrooms. Most likely, people will want to buy the first units of these trims right away. However, that may only last for a while since Toyota plans to make a lot more of these Land Cruisers than they did before. Toyota has said it wants to increase the number of cars it sells in the future. Our source says that Toyota plans to almost double production compared to the last few years. The last few years of production for the earlier-generation Land Cruiser saw sales of between 3,000 and 3,500 cars per year in the US. That could mean that more than 10,000 cars are sold every year in the country. The 4Runner vs. the Land Cruiser Since a new 4Runner is supposed to come out in 2025, the Land Cruiser’s release date and store distribution based on 4Runners are very interesting. We have yet to determine the exact date, but Toyota has recently dropped hints about the new model, and we’ve seen a prototype being tested out in the wild, which suggests it will be out soon. The new Land Cruiser is smaller and cheaper than the old one, so the two off-road SUVs will look a lot more alike than they did before. Given the model’s past, it wouldn’t surprise us if the 4Runner, which might come out later this year and be cheaper and sell more, helped shrink the market for Land Cruisers. In any case, it will be interesting to see how Toyota’s growing line of off-road SUVs grows over the next few months.
