  • There could be two types of SUVs: a hatchback based on the Sportback and even a sports car like the Dark Rebel design.

Cupra, the growing Spanish branch of Volkswagen Group, is having a great year. Their next big step will be to start in the U.S. by the end of the decade. At the moment, they are planning this. These are the details.

When it comes to electric cars, the Spanish racing brand Cupra wants to sell them in the U.S.

What does the word “Cupra” mean?

Cupra started as a branch of the Spanish Seat brand and, in 2016, focused on sports equipment packs. In terms of price, it was about the same as the AMG Line and the BMW M Sport. But it wasn’t until two years later that it was made a real name. The Leon hatchback and wagon came out in 2021, replacing the Ateca, a quick small SUV that was the launch model. Cupra’s first single model was the Formentor SUV, which you can see above. Its genes are similar to those of the Audi Q3 and the V.W. Tiguan. The Born crossover, which was built on the V.W. ID.3, marked the start of the brand’s entry into the E.V. market, which would become its only competitive area.

When will Cupra come to the U.S.?

Cupra has announced that it will expand into North America, the company’s next big step. If everything goes as planned, the Spanish loser will start making cars in this country in 2028 or 2029. The bigger Cupra model is reportedly being considered for production at the Audi plant in Mexico. The Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga and an unknown U.S. site are also being considered.

At first, this will not be a national effort. Instead, it will be a program that focuses on the East and West coasts and a few major cities. Along with online sales and a set network of dealers, the marketing plan aims to boost sales through new, more up-to-date methods.

What kinds of cars will Cupra sell?

We should see a boom in two types of products: the new Formentor and a bigger crossover that is said to be the Audi Q6 e-tron’s sister model. The third car in the line could be a hatchback with four doors based on the Audi Allroad concept, which looks like a station wagon. Lastly, we expect a less flashy version of the amazing Dark Rebel design. This could be Cupra’s first halo car. Still, the end of the decade is a while off, and Cupra USA’s product line is still subject to change because the market is unstable.
