Land Rover is making a new flagship car that will be the Defender’s main competitor. The new model was given the name OCTA, which comes from the word “octahedron,” which means “eight-sided polyhedron.” The Defender OCTA is going to be “the toughest, most capable, and luxurious Defender ever,” says Land Rover. A twin-turbocharged V-8 motor will make power under the hood. Before the OCTA is shown later this year, we won’t know its exact power numbers, but it will have the same 626-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine as the improved Range Rover Sport SV. The engine in that version is said to be able to take the SV Edition One to a top speed of 180 mph and from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The OCTA will also be able to use Land Rover’s cutting-edge new SV suspension technology. This technology, which the company calls “6D Dynamics,” means that when the Sport’s normal air springs are used, hydraulically cross-linked dampers are used instead of anti-roll bars. The technology makes it much easier for the Defender’s wheels to move independently and bend when off-roading. It also helps the Defender keep a nearly level stance when speeding up, slowing down, or turning. In line with the model’s idea, the OCTA will be different from other Defenders by having a new diamond-shaped logo on parts like the side panels and steering wheel. Land Rover says the OCTA has been tried in Sweden, Dubai, the Nürburgring, and Moab, making it the toughest Defender they have ever made.
