Our Opinion - 2025 BMW X3 Review

When it came out in 2004, the BMW X3 helped to create the small luxury crossover market. It went on to become the best-selling car for the company. The fourth generation 2025 X3 builds on its track record of success by making small changes and improvements that make the breed better instead of making a new one. By 2025, all-wheel drive will be normal, and the M50 will take the place of the M40i, which was designed for speed. It’s worth mentioning that BMW will only use the letter “i” for electric cars from now on and not in the names of its gas-powered cars. When we tested the 2025 X3 prototypes, we saw that even though the new model is bigger than the old one in every way, it has a lower drag coefficient because its bodywork has been changed to make it more aerodynamic. BMW also carefully mixes new technology, like extra music and video streaming services, as well as a number of games to keep people busy when the car is parked. The inline-six and four-cylinder powertrains are both back but with a small boost in output and a modest hybrid component. The all-electric iX3, which will come out later and be built on a different base, will live with the X3, which was already shown off. There isn’t a plug-in hybrid officially confirmed for the US market yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if one didn’t make it. The US is becoming more and more interested in hybrid cars in general. The X3 always has an appealing, right-sized compact crossover body style in one of the most popular segments. It also has a smooth ride and handling balance and some minor luxury features.

Almost all of it. The fourth-generation 2025 X3 is bigger overall and has newer infotainment and driver-assist tech, a reworked body and chassis, and powertrains that are different from the third generation. The M50 takes the place of the M40i, and all-wheel drive is standard instead of the sDrive option. The 2025 models are called the X3 30 xDrive and the X3 M50. This is because BMW has taken the word “i” out of the names of its gas-powered cars and only uses it on its electric cars. The 2025 X3’s driver-assist systems include a lot of new technologies that make the car safer and more comfortable. For example, the systems automatically change lanes, have adaptive cruise control that can recognize traffic lights, and help with parking. Also, a new package called the Parking Assistant Professional Package lets the car park itself in a place you choose ahead of time and saves in the computer system of the vehicle, even when you’re not there. Having a reserved spot in a garage or parking lot is like this.

Pros

  • Brand-new looks.
  • Several different types of powertrains.
  • Interior that is high-tech.

Cons

  • The X3 M has yet to be shown off.
  • There are some rivals with lower prices.

With a 48-volt hybrid system, the 30 xDrive’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine makes 255 horsepower. The M50, on the other hand, does very well with its 3.0-liter inline-six supercharged engine that makes 393 horsepower and the same hybridization technology. Both have an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. According to samples we were able to test drive, the 2025 X3 will have better road manners than the previous generation model. This is because it has a stronger body structure and better suspension. We’re sure that the changes will make the car more responsive without changing how it rides. This way, the M50 comes with adjustable suspension as standard, while the 30 xDrive lets you choose to have this feature. Three different drive modes let the driver customize responses to their needs: personal, efficient, and sport. With an available trailer hitch, the X3 can pull up to 4,850 pounds.

Although a wide choice of driver assistance technologies are available, BMW comes standard with the essentials. Some important safety factors are:

  • Automatic emergency brakes and forward collision warning are standard features.
  • Normal warning for leaving your lane.
  • You can get adaptive speed control.

New sport seats with three colors of fake leather upholstery that can be heated, cooled, and adjusted with power are standard. You can choose between real leather and a combination of fake leather and suede. There is also a woven cloth instrument panel made of recycled polyester. This is the first time that a BMW product has had something like this.

The EPA has yet to release official fuel economy numbers for the 2025 X3, but we’re sure that the hybridization and engine updates will make the car more fuel-efficient than the 2024 X3. In this test, the old M40i got 21 and 26 mpg in the city and on the highway, while the old regular rear-wheel drive car got 23 and 29 mpg, respectively. Surprisingly, both got 31 and 29 MPG on our 200-mile highway test, which was better than their EPA estimates.

The X3 gets BMW’s newest entertainment system, iDrive 9. The iDrive rotary knob is still there, which is a nice surprise since it was missing from the recently updated X1 and X2 models. Voice commands, controls on the steering wheel, and a touchscreen can also be used to enter information into the device. There is no need for head-up screens. When the car is stopped, BMW Digital Premium lets you watch movies and play games in single- or dual-player modes. Spotify and Amazon Music can now be used to play music on the X3.

We have yet to try the 2025 X3, and BMW states it will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.. After that, the X3 should be able to catch up to the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Macan S. With 393 horsepower; the X3 M50 should be able to beat the M40i’s time of 4.1 seconds by a tenth or two. For the 30 xDrive, the fastest speed is 130 mph. With performance tires, the xDrive M50 can go as fast as 155 mph.

We think the 30 xDrive is the best deal because it’s almost $15,000 cheaper. In fact, the 2025 M50’s 393-hp inline-six makes it feel more like a real BMW, and for some users, the $65,275 price tag is just what it costs to do business with BMW. Of course, the X3 M speed model, which will come out in 2025, could have more horsepower for the money.
