It is the most luxurious subcompact car when it comes to both the inside and the outside. Lucky for us, Mazda has kept its fast driving style, which is one of its best features, even on this high-end road. The CX-30 is definitely one of the more fun cars in its class, but for the best performance, you should get the more powerful turbocharged engine. The Volkswagen Taos and Chevrolet Trailblazer have more space for buyers who value practicality because they can carry smaller loads. The Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Audi Q3, and the BMW X1 all cost more than the CX-30’s top trim level. There is a Mazda CX-30 on our 2025 Editors’ Choice list. It is one of our top picks in its class. What's New? There is a brand-new native guidance system that comes out with live traffic, over-the-air updates, and more detailed maps. There is also a new paint color called Aero Gray Metallic, and it is now compatible with Alexa, which means that more features can be managed with voice commands. Pros and Cons Pros Fast Turbo models. The inside is very fancy. It still looks lovely. Cons A rough ride. Hard to load, second row. Pricey for the class. Engine, Transmission, and Performance There is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine in the CX-30 that can make 191 horsepower. This engine comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox that chooses the right gear based on the road conditions. You can choose to add a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower. You’ll enjoy driving the CX-30 just as much if you like the Mazda 3 car. It is fun to drive on winding roads because the precise turning and smooth body movements make you feel stable while you’re driving. Safety The CX-30 comes with a lot of useful driver-assistance features as standard. These include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning. A head-up monitor and the ability to read traffic signs are not required. The following are important safety features: Typical automated emergency braking recognizes people. Lane-keeping assistance and standards lane departure warning. It comes with adaptive speed control. Internal and External Cargo Capacity The CX-30 and the Mazda 3 both have beautiful, well-designed interiors that we like. There are climate control buttons between the upper and lower dash panels, and an entertainment screen that sticks out from the dashboard is controlled by a rotary knob on the center console. People can choose between an eight- or twelve-speaker sound system and heated front seats. The CX-30 is on par with more expensive cars like the Lexus UX and the Mini Countryman thanks to its high-end Premium version, which has leather seats, a power-operated rear liftgate, and other high-end features. The CX-30 isn’t the most roomy SUV for hauling things, but we were able to fit six carry-on bags behind the back seats and sixteen in total when the back seats were folded down. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG The non-turbo CX-30 is thought to get 29 mpg total, 33 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg in the city. The EPA says the CX-30 with the turbocharged engine will get 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg total. On our highway fuel-economy test route, which was set at 75 mph, our CX-30 Premium test car got exactly 31 mpg, which is what the EPA says it should get. Infotainment and Connectivity The CX-30 comes with a standard 8.8-inch screen that has Mazda Connected Services. With these services, owners can use the MyMazda app to keep an eye on their car, start it from afar, and lock and open it. In the turbo version, the 10.3-inch screen is bigger. The CX-30 also comes with Bluetooth, two USB ports on the front, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and basic support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All trim levels except the base model come with Alexa Built-in, which lets you use voice requests instead of the infotainment screen for everything. The Premium trim level and higher come with a built-in navigation system that gets real-time traffic information and the newest maps through over-the-air changes. Range, Charging, and Battery Life On our test track, the CX-30 took 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, which was slower than rivals like the turbocharged Kona but much faster than the Jeep Grand Cherokees and Kia Niro without turbochargers. A CX-30 with a turbocharged engine could go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, which is a lot faster. Price and How to Choose The 250-hp turbocharged engine is appealing, but it’s only available on the most expensive models. The base engine will be good enough for most people, so we suggest that they choose their best trim and stick with that engine. The Preferred trim level comes with 18-inch wheels painted in silver, a power sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning, a steering wheel and shift knob wrapped in leather, keyless entry, and a driver’s seat that can be adjusted eight times and remembers its position. The all-wheel drive is standard on all non-turbo model levels, and the 2.5-liter engine makes 191 horsepower.
