Our Opinion - 2024 Audi A5 Review

The Audi A5, with four seats, is still one of the most comfortable and useful two-door cars on the market after 17 years and four versions. The A5 comes in two body styles: a hardtop car and a droptop convertible. Style-wise, it looks interesting, and how it’s handled makes you curious. All A5 models, no matter how many doors they have come with all-wheel drive and a 261-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed automatic gear. We look at the A5 Sportback with four doors, one at a time. Careful balance prevents the rougher ride of more expensive and powerful A5-based cars, like the 444-hp RS5 and the 349-hp S5, from ruining the driving experience. The inside is beautiful overall, but there are a few cheap touches that look out of place, like handles that need to be padded more. The A5 is a well-rounded and useful choice, thanks to its large trunk and ease of use.

Common new features are added. The steering wheel is now heated on all models, and they all come with adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, hands-on recognition, and parking assist, which can park your car for you. Audi also made it possible to start the car from a distance using the MyAudi app. Instead of Tango Red and Ibis White, Progressive Red Metallic and Arkona White are used on the outside. The Navigation Package comes with predictive adaptive speed control and traffic sign recognition. It is standard on Premium Plus models but not standard on other models. Through navigation, you can get a six-month subscription to the more feature-packed Audi Connect Plus and Audi app shop. These offer a software interface designed just for Audis for everything from news and weather to games and parking.

Pros

  • The base model gets good gas mileage.
  • It comes in three body styles.
  • Smooth, attractive outside.

Cons

  • The boring feeling while driving.
  • Becomes pricey.
  • The house is filled with noise from the road.

The newest A5, which has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 261 horsepower, still needs to be put in the C/D workshop. The 252-hp engine was used on our last trip. Even though it has nine more horsepower, the A5 still has the same basic personality. It has strong acceleration and loves turns. The A5 went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, which was faster than the 255-hp BMW 430i xDrive. The A5 is easy to drive on back roads because it has strong brakes, a flexible chassis, an agile suspension, and accurate and lightly weighted steering. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system helps the Audi brake less when making tight turns, even though it prefers wide sweepers to tight spaghetti curves.

The A5 comes with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking as standard. However, you can add some of the better driver-aid features that you might want. Visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the A5’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Automatic emergency brakes and forward collision warning are standard.
  • Normal warning for leaving your lane.
  • It comes with adaptive speed control.

Audi has always been the leader in making cabins that look good and last a long time. The A5’s high quality makes the family happy everywhere you look. The coupe is still as stylish and up-to-date as it was in 2007. However, how people see things comes first, sometimes even more so than user experience. The thin padding in the armrests tells buyers that more luxurious Audis are higher up the food and financial chains. The leather-wrapped steering wheel can’t be adjusted automatically, and the leg rests have to be manually extended to make the narrow seat bottoms more comfortable. Adults, long trips, and back cars don’t go together well. As always, be careful with couches that have back seats that are too small. You can enjoy longer trips more if you get rid of the extra adults. The A5 has a big trunk hidden under its fold-flat back seats.

The A5 hatchback is expected to get 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The droptop version, on the other hand, only gets 31 mpg on the highway. We can find out how many miles per gallon the A5 models really get when they go through our tough testing process, which includes a 75 mph highway fuel-economy route.

Audi has packed a lot of tech comforts into the A5, especially in the higher trim levels. All the important features are controlled by the 10.1-inch touchscreen on the dashboard. These include USB and Bluetooth connection, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Extra features like traffic data, an Audi app store link, Amazon Alexa integration, and a WiFi hotspot can be tried out for free with the Navigation Package.

We think the mid-range Premium Plus trim level is the best deal between price and features. If you want to make driving even more enjoyable, you should get the Navigation Package. Modern technology, a wireless charging pad, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen music, Audi’s digital gauge display, and a surround-view camera are all included in this grade. The coupe is also our favorite. The extra $7,000 for a Premium Cabriolet would buy a fully equipped Prestige car. Still, if you need to drive with the top down, the A5 Cabriolet is a lot cheaper than the BMW 4 Series Convertible.
