Our Opinion - 2025 Chevrolet Suburban Review

Chevrolet’s XXL Suburban SUV has been moving people and goods all over the United States since 1935. Aside from being the size of an adult station wagon and having a chassis built on a truck, the stylish and high-tech 2025 edition is different from the practical Carryall models that started the brand. The modern Suburban has three rows of seats that can fit up to eight people, an infotainment system with an internet link, a large maximum towing capacity, a sleek look on the road, and many high-end features. The Suburban and the smaller Tahoe SUV share the same frame, but the Suburban has a longer wheelbase, which makes more space inside for people and things. You can choose from two different gasoline-powered V-8 engines and a diesel inline-six engine. All of them come with a 10-speed automatic gear. Even though it has been around longer, the Suburban has to deal with tough competition from big SUVs like the Ford Expedition Max and Jeep Wagoneer L. Even though those two other huge lugs can pull bigger trailers, they’re more stylish than the Suburban across town.

The 2025 Suburban has a new look because both the outside and the inside have been redone. Chevy’s biggest SUV has more of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, new features for towing, a standard 17.7-inch infotainment system, a new 11.0-inch digital gauge display, new wheel designs (including some huge 24-inch rollers), and chassis upgrades that make the ride more comfortable and easier to handle. The Suburban’s V-8 fuel engines haven’t changed, but a diesel inline-six engine is now available. It has 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

If you want more power, you can get a 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 420 horsepower. The base engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower. It comes with a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six engine that makes 305 horsepower and is good on gas. The cars with all three engines have either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission with ten speeds. An air suspension and adaptable springs are also available on the Suburban. The second one lets you change the ride height of your big SUV either by hand or automatically. This improves ground clearance, aerodynamics, and passenger entry. The Z71 off-road model has 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, and a two-speed shift system that lets you drive all four wheels at once. The Suburban comes with a lot of standard gear to help the driver. You can also get GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, but it’s only offered on the LT, RST, Premier, and High Country trim levels. There is a lot of room inside the Suburban, which is one of the biggest SUVs. Lots of people and their belongings can fit on it. With the extra captain’s chairs in the second row, the three rows of seats can fit up to eight people. There is a lot of legroom, so almost everyone can find a comfy position, even in the back row. The second-row seats can be moved forward and backward to change the size of the passenger area. Behind the third seat is a big cargo area that can easily hold a family’s travel needs. It’s easier to load and unload on the flat, low load level than on the higher floors of rivals. Even though Chevy’s base models aren’t as fancy as the most expensive ones, they still have a lot of useful and practical features, like multiple power outlets, automatic climate control, second and third-row seats that are easy to fold down, and more. The High Country is the most luxurious type. It has unique color schemes inside, beautiful wood trim, and leather seats with holes in them.

The EPA hasn’t officially tested the 2025 Suburban’s gas mileage yet, but it will not be much different from last year’s model. The most fuel-efficient engine for the 2024 Suburban was the diesel. The rear-drive model got 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. They said that the normal 5.3-liter V-8 would get 15 mpg in the city, which was one mpg less than the optional 6.2-liter V-8. On the highway, they said that both V-8s could get up to 20 mpg. Every Suburban undergoes rigorous testing, including a trip down our 75 mph highway route, to determine its actual MPG.

There are two of these big screens on the dashboard of every Suburban for people who like them. An 11.0-inch digital collection of instruments blocks the driver’s view, but the 17.7-inch infotainment screen is the main attraction. To make it easy for the driver to use the system’s features, the main screen is slightly tilted toward them. In addition to a Wi-Fi hotspot App, CarPlay, and Android Auto, there is also a portable charging pad for smartphones. You can get either a Bose stereo or an entertainment device for the back seats.

As long as the extra Max Trailering package is chosen, rear-wheel-drive Suburbans with the 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8 engine can pull up to 8,300 pounds. The diesel four-wheel-drive Suburban can only pull 7,800 pounds, the least of all the models in the line.

Our favorite is the RST due to its menacing appearance, which features blacked-out exterior trim and 22-inch wheels. A power liftgate, heated front seats with memory settings, leather seats in the first and second rows, and a Bose sound system are all standard. If we had to pick one, the diesel inline-six would be it because it has smooth power and uses little gas.
