Our Opinion - 2022 Jeep Compass Review

A Jeep Compass has become one of the least successful compact SUV on the market in recent years.. Part of the problem lies with the car’s weak engine and sluggish nine-speed automatic transmission. Compass’ rough ride quality on uneven ground and the interior’s cheap plastics have also been questioned. We won’t know for sure until we get behind the wheel, but the latest design might be a substantial upgrade over its predecessor.

Despite having slightly less power, the new nine-speed automated transmission can make driving more enjoyable even though the take up to 3 four-cylinder engine is less powerful. Jeep claims to have improved acceleration and shift quality by fine-tuning the transmission. The Jeep’s driving manners can be further improved by making adjustments to the Jeep’s steering and suspension.

The Compass has always been known for its off-road prowess, and we don’t see that changing in 2022. The Trailhawk version of the Compass is the best AWD Compass we’ve evaluated for off-roading.

  • A fresh look for the exterior and the interior.
  • New steering and suspension calibrations have been implemented.
  • Engine power is down to 177 horsepower from 180 hp last year.
  • Nine-speed automatic transmission has been fine-tuned.
  • A 10.1-inch touchscreen is also available.
  • Digital instrument cluster with a display size of 10.3 inches is currently available.

Pros:

  • A high degree of off-road prowess
  • Newly remodelled interiors
  • Requirements for modern day safety

Cons:

  • Not as fast as some of its competitors
  • Rating for rollover safety of three stars

The Jeep Compass, on the other hand, hasn’t done anything for us. This may change in 2022, when the tiny crossover gets a major overhaul. The Jeep Compass is positioned between the Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Cherokee.

  • Full-speed forward collision warnings with active braking & walkable recognition, lane departure, lane keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are now standard safety features.
  • Semi-autonomous driving assistance system, Highway Assist (late availability).
  • The back seats are heated.

The single engine option for the Compass is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder. There are fewer horsepower and torque figures for the 2022 model year: 177 hp & 172 lb-ft, down from the previous year’s 180 hp and 175, respectively.

Automatic transmissions with six or nine gears are available on the FWD Sport & Latitude models, while automatic transmissions with nine or 10 gears are available on all AWD variants.

A Jeep Compass now comes standard with a robust set of safety measures, thanks to the addition of additional features for 2022. As well as lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert with rear cross-traffic monitoring are some of the other safety features that can be added to a new vehicle. As an option, adaptive cruise control can handle stop-and-go traffic.

When it comes to driving on the highway, Jeep plans to offer a quasi operating system which uses lane centering and adaptive cruise control technology. For the Limited and Trailhawk trims, this feature is aptly titled Highway Assist. Keep in mind that this is merely a tool, and that drivers must always maintain their focus on the road and their fingers on the wheel.

The 2022 Compass’s crash test scores still have not been announced. With a four-star increased safety score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a 2021 Jeep Compass received four stars in the front crash test, 5 stars in the side impact test, and three in the rollover. However, the 2021 Compass was given a Marginal or Poor rating for its headlights, depending on the trim level, during IIHS crash testing.

A 2022 Jeep Compass has a lot of legroom and baggage capacity for the backseat passengers. Both are instances where the Subaru Crosstrek falls short, despite the Subie’s superior first-row legroom.

Behind First and Second Rows Cargo Space:

  • Compass: 59.8/27.2 cubic metres in 2022.
  • 55.3/20.8 cubic feet for the Crosstrek in the new model year.

First and Second Row Legroom:

  • The 2022 Compass is 41.8/38.3 inches in length and width.
  • 43.1/36.5 inches for the 2021 Crosstrek.

In the year 2022, Jeep will include the 8.4-inch touchscreen as standard equipment on the Compass, which we found to be extremely user-friendly.

Optional 10.1-inch touchscreens and a 10.3-inch digital instrument panel will be available for the 2022 model year. There is a 9 Alpine audio system available for an additional fee in addition to the regular six speakers.

The MSRP for the standard FWD 2022 Jeep Compass Sports is around $26,500. There is a $33,000 difference between the Trailhawk & Limited at the upper end.

Technology:

Five trim options are available for the Jeep Compass in 2022. The 2022 model year will see the debut of the Latitude Lux trim.

Start/stop, LED headlights, cloth seats, 6 manual driver/passenger seat adjustment, 8.4-inch screen with wireless Bluetooth connectivity, and more. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

Body-colored door handles, fog lamps, 17-inch wheels, and a shift knob covered in leather all come standard on the Latitude.

It has a heated wheel, leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver’s seat and heated front seats. The Latitude Lux has a 7.0-inch encapsulated display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Tow hooks are red on the front and back of the unique and front rear fascias. It has a 1.0-inch raise.

Dazzling chrome grille rings and roof rails, 18-inch jewel wheels with black pockets, and a gloss black grill surround characterise the Limited trim.
