Our Opinion - 2025 Lexus NX Review

It looks good from the outside, has nice, comfy seats, and a smooth ride. Not many things are wrong with the 2025 Lexus NX, but it’s not the best small luxury SUV out there. You can get the NX with four different types of engines: a hybrid (NX350h), a plug-in hybrid (NX450h+), two regular gas engines (NX250 and NX350), or a hybrid (NX350h). Of course, Lexus’s main company made the Prius, so it knows a thing or two about those. The NX450h+ PHEV has an amazing range of 550 miles on both gas and electricity, according to the EPA. It also shares 304 horsepower with the Toyota RAV4 Prime. Even in the F Sport version, the NX isn’t your typical thrill ride, but it is pretty easy to drive. Instead, Lexus’s second-smallest crossover is designed to be driven every day to work or the store. It’s also a great car for taking family and friends on leisurely trips to see places. If you want to enjoy driving your car more, you could look at the Audi Q3, the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class, or any of the other cars that compete with the NX.

Since the big redesign of the NX in 2022, a lot has stayed the same. Lexus chose to make only small changes to the 2025 model. One of the changes is a beautiful new finish called Copper Crest that shimmers with a rose gold tint. The new color for 2025’s interiors is macadamia, and only Luxury-trim cars will have it. You can add a wireless charger to any grade, and the front panel comes standard with two more USB-C ports, a power liftgate, and rain-sensing wipers. Lexus also made automatic braking and an easy-to-use parking aid standard on all of its cars.

Pros

  • A breath of diesel engines.
  • Great value over the long run.
  • A trip without any problems.

Cons

  • Simple base engine.
  • Performance levels need to be higher for sportier models.
  • A simple inside.

There are four different powertrains for the 2025 NX. The NX250 has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 hp, and the NX350 has a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 275 hp. The power goes to both through an automatic gear with eight speeds. In the case of the NX250, you have the option of selecting front-wheel drive, while the NX350 offers all-wheel drive. The NX350h’s 240 hp come from a 2.5-liter inline-four paired with two electric motors. The NX450h+ is more interesting because it uses the RAV4 Prime’s plug-in hybrid engine, which has 304 horsepower (when using premium fuel). The hybrid models both come equipped with all-wheel drive as standard. The NX had a smooth and comfortable ride, but it didn’t handle very well for us. We were able to crack a few backroad grins with a little help. The NX isn’t as agile on rough ground as the BMW X1, even with the adaptive suspension technology in the F Sport model that makes the ride more stable and tightens it up.

Lexus includes many driver-assistance tools, which is standard on the NX. It is anticipated that all variants will come equipped with automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance as standard features. For additional information regarding the NX’s crash test scores, it is recommended that you visit the websites of NHTSA and IIHS. The following are some essential safety factors:

  • To a large extent, autonomous emergency brakes can detect human drivers.
  • Regular lane exit alarm that aids in maintaining your position within the lane.
  • It comes with adaptive speed control.

The newest iteration of the NX features a significantly improved cabin design, which features a sleek appearance and materials of superior quality. Within the luxury subcompact crossover category, the NX boasts one of the most spacious cabins available. The back seat is a bit bigger than many of its competitors, and when the back seats are folded down, they can hold more luggage than many of its rivals. A panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, an ambient interior lighting system with 64 color options, and black open-pore wood trim are all extras that can be added as options.

The EPA said that the hybrid NX350h was the most fuel-efficient NX type. It got 41 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Standard NX250 gas mileage is best achieved at 26 city and 33 highway mpg. The turbocharged X350 achieves 22 city mpg and 29 highway mpg. The EPA said that the NX450h+ p ug-in hybrid’s battery pack could hold enough electrons to let the car go up to 37 miles on electricity alone before it needed to be charged again. Highway fuel economy is 33 mpg, and city fuel economy is 38 mpg. On our highway test out, it went 75 mph, and an all-wheel-drive NX350 got 28 mpg, but a hybrid NX350h only got 34 mpg. At the same speed, the NX450h+ plug-in could go 33 miles on battery power alone.

Every NX model has a tablet infotainment system. The screens on the higher-end trims are 14.0 inches, while the screens on the base models are 9.8 inches. Additionally, you have the option of connecting your smartphone to both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through a wire ss connection. Additional features that can be added include head-up displays and a wireless charging station for mobile devices such as cellphones. Models with the Premium or Luxury packages come with a high-end Mark Levinson stereo system with 17 speakers. The basic system has ten speakers and comes with a free trial of Amazon Music.

The NX350h took 7.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the top-of-the-line NX450h+ did it in 5.6 seconds. We took a mid-range NX350 for our first test drive. In just 6.6 seconds, it went from 0 to 60 miles per hour.

The base form of the NX may be too simple for some high-end buyers, but it starts at just under $42,000. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine in the mid-range NX350, which makes 275 horsepower, is more powerful. The NX350 Luxury model is the one we suggest because it has more high-end features, such as a bigger 14.0-inch infotainment screen, quilted leather seats, better interior lighting, cloud-connected navigation, 20-inch wheels, four-way adjustable driver lumbar support, and adaptive headlamps. The NX350 F Sport is about the same price for people who want a scarier look and better speed. Choosing one of the three high-end outer colors costs an extra $500. Copper Crest and Ultrasonic Blue Mica cost $595.
