Our Opinion - 2022 Ram 3500 4WD Review

Everything went right for Ram 3500 to win our Truck of the Year 2020 award. It’s a heavy-duty vehicle that can tow and haul, but it’s also luxurious, enjoyable to drive, and jam-packed with high-tech features. The outside and interior of the Ram 3500 are both eye-catching.

The diesel begs for an 8 automatic transmission, but all of the engines are powerful and responsive. Its ride and handling are top-notch for the class. The 12.0-inch accessible display and the offered driver aid functions are also excellent additions. With proper off-road gear, we’ve found the 3500’s off-road abilities to be impressive as well. Aside from all of its excellent characteristics, it costs less than its rivals.

 Pros:

Cons:

  • An automatic transmission is the only option for diesel
  • Diesel vehicles are slower than their gasoline-powered counterparts

The diesel turbocharged inline-six and the V-8 gasoline engines are both available in the Ram 3500. 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque are sent to the rear wheels or all four axles via an eight-speed automated transmission from the 6.4-liter gas engine.

There are two versions of the 6.7-liter turbocharged inline-six. For a 370-horsepower engine, that works out to about 850 pound-feet. 420 horsepower & 1,075 lb-ft of power may be found in the “high-output” variant. Transmissions in the 3500 diesel are heavy-duty six-speed automatics. Because the EPA does not conduct fuel economy tests on heavy-duty trucks, no data on the Ram 3500 is available.

All models have the option of adding the Safety Group, which includes a slew of advanced safety features. The vehicle is equipped with blind-spot tracking, rear cross-traffic alert, automated emergency stop, and lane-keep assist if this option is selected.

In terms of size and capability, the Ram 3500 is the brand’s largest and most powerful vehicle accessible to consumers. With the 3500 (and 2500) in particular, we were so delighted that we awarded it our Vehicle of the Year in 2019. For the upcoming model year in 2022, Ram will provide a variety of new special editions, technology, and features. Chevrolet’s Silverado HD and GMC’s Sierra HD are all competitors for the 3500.

A variety of cab and bed options are available for the Ram 3500 to satisfy the needs of its clients. It is possible to get a Tradesman model with either an 8-foot bed or a crew cab with just a 6-foot-4-inch bed. The 3500 can be ordered in all of the same methods as the Tradesman version, as well as with a giant cab as well as a 6-foot-4-inch bed, in the Bighorn River trim level. A conventional cab is no longer an option just after the Big Horn model for Ram.

The Ram 3500’s cargo capacity and interior space can be customized. There are 57.5 cubic meters of volume in the 6-foot-4-inch bed and 74.7 cubic feet in the 8-foot bed. In the second row, crew cabs have 38.3 inches of legroom, whereas mega cabs gain 2.9 feet for a total of 43.1 inches of legroom, which is more than any other model.

Bluetooth and a 5-inch touchscreen are all that tradesmen models have to work with. With the introduction of the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, every other model now comes standard with a 12.0-inch touchscreen. These variants come equipped with Wi-Fi and automatic software updates, as well as Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. As an option, 10-speaker and 17-speaker audio systems are also available for the higher-end trims of the vehicle. In addition, there is a 360º camera system, four cameras that can be attached to the trailer to provide a 360-degree vision, and a hitch light.

At a low price, this 3500 Laramie Extended Cab 3-4 hits a perfect balance of equipment and potential upgrades. The exterior is powerful and unique, while the interior is well-appointed. With a 10-speaker audio system, a 12-inch touchscreen, and just a 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, it’s a very impressive package. The air suspension with auto-leveling is also an option with this model. We recommend upgrading to the digital edition of the turbo inline-six engine as this is a 3500, which has the highest horsepower and torque.
