Our Opinion - 2025 Toyota GR Supra Review

Toyota indeed has a good reputation for making useful products, but the company also has a wild side. The GR Supra, an open two-door sports car made to perform and be fun to drive, is the first car of its kind. Even though the Supra was based on the BMW Z4 convertible, which it looks and feels a lot like, it tries to be more young and streetwise. They also have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine with 382 horsepower (Toyota has gotten rid of the four-cylinder Supra for 2025) and a frame that drives the back wheels. Toyota is trying to appeal to purists with the Supra, which comes with a free six-speed manual gear instead of the standard eight-speed automatic. Many of the parts inside came from BMW, even though the inside is well-built and useful. In a standard sports coupe, the inside is tight, but with a little work, everyone can find a comfy seat. Don’t forget to pack light. It’s not easy to drive long distances in the Supra. Instead, it’s best on long, straight country roads with lots of turns and the odd track day to keep things interesting. We chose the Toyota GR Supra as our Editors’ Choice for 2025 because it is one of the best cars in its class.

Toyota’s Halo sports car no longer has the previous four-cylinder engine, but it will remain mostly the same until 2025.

Pros

  • Turbocharged I-6 that is strong and looks good.
  • Beautiful style.
  • A choice of a manual gear.

Cons

  • The base engine was taken off the market.
  • How ready the back end is to leave.
  • It might be more interesting.

The only engine that will work until 2025 is the 382-hp turbocharged inline six-cylinder, and no one has ever questioned how well it works. We won’t be sad to see the four-cylinder go, though, because the six-cylinder has been our favorite Supra engine for a long time. The customer can choose between the regular model and the more expensive Premium trim when it comes to the transmission. Even if the automatic is faster, numbers can’t fully capture how exciting and rewarding it is to drive a car with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The GR Supra’s suspension is soft enough that it can be driven every day, even though it can go fast. The straight, accurate, and well-weighted steering makes driving it a great experience. The only thing we didn’t like about our long-term GR Supra was how easily it got stuck in the snow.

Toyota’s GR Supra series comes with a number of standard driving assistance features, such as automatic emergency braking. With the optional Driver’s Assist package, you can get extra features like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot tracking. The following are important safety features:

  • Typical automated emergency braking recognizes people.
  • Normal warning for leaving your lane.
  • Automatic highlights come as standard.

The double-bubble canopy gives taller drivers a little more headroom, but the driver-focused cabin will still feel tight for them. The 14-way power-adjustable seats that come standard help make the most of the small room. Even though the hatchback opens to a small luggage area, it’s big enough to fit a couple of carry-on bags or about a week’s worth of food for two people. We were able to fit four pieces of carry-on luggage under the back seats while we were trying. The inside of the Toyota is a lot like the inside of the Z4 for people who know how to use BMW switches and electronic entertainment settings.

If you choose an automatic transmission, the GR Supra 3.0 gets 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. If you choose a manual transmission, it gets 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. For a sports car, these gas mileage numbers are pretty good. It has better gas mileage than the M2, Camaro, and Cayman GTS. The six-cylinder GR Supra got 34 mpg on our highway test route, going 75 mph, which was better than its highway rating, and the turbo four got an amazing 38 mpg.

The GR Supra’s 8.8-inch center display uses a version of BMW’s latest iDrive interface that has been very slightly changed. The digital gauge displays in all of the cars look different from the Bimmers. You can use Apple CarPlay and Navigation, but not Android Auto. Because the GR Supra’s interior is so big, the standard 10-speaker audio system will be fine for most buyers. However, a 12-speaker JBL system is offered.

The C/D type with an automatic transmission went from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and from 0 to 100 mph in 9.5 seconds in 2020, when the six-cylinder Supra had 47 fewer horsepower than it does now. The 382-horsepower Supra is slowed down by two-tenths of a second at 60 mph and by one-tenth at 100 mph when the manual gear is used. The manual, on the other hand, makes driving a lot more fun and interesting. In addition, we put a 2023 Toyota Supra 3.0 through a 0-to-150-to-0 speed test. It stopped in 31.1 seconds thanks to good brakes. It is no longer for sale, but the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged Supra with an eight-speed automatic could go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, which is faster than the BMW Z4, which is the GR Supra’s German cousin and took 5.0 seconds.

The price of the 2025 Toyota GR Supra could range from $57,345 to $60,495, depending on the choices and specs. The four-cylinder version will no longer be made after 2025. Only the six-cylinder Supra will be built after that. We like the no-cast manual transmission because it fits Supra’s personality and purpose better and makes driving a lot more pleasant. Also, every GR Supra comes with a free one-day pass to a high-performance driving race and a membership to the National Auto Sport Association for a year. The NASPA is a group for sports car racing. In the same way, we would stay away from the Driver Assist package, which has adaptive cruise control, blind-spot tracking, and lane-keeping assistance technology that is more annoying than helpful. Think about this: if you don’t buy the Driver’s Assist plan, you can use the money you save to get more track time and new tires.
