If you regularly need to transport many passengers and large amounts of cargo, the 2024 GMC Yukon XL is the vehicle for you. There’s room for up to nine people inside. The Yukon XL is a body-on-frame SUV, making it ideal for towing. Simply put, it’s a scaled-down version of the full-size Chevrolet Suburban. This Yukon has a longer wheelbase than the regular Yukon, hence the “XL” moniker. The Yukon XL’s cabin is a cut above that of the Suburban’s, but it still falls short of the entire luxury the Cadillac Escalade ESV offers.

For the 2024 model year, both the standard Yukon and the Yukon XL should grow in size. They will undergo significant transformations, including a new outside design and possibly upgraded interiors with cutting-edge amenities. We also anticipate that GMC will introduce a more potent diesel engine for the Yukon. Once we have additional information, we will revise our assessment.

The GMC Yukon XL competes with vehicles like the Ford Expedition Max and Jeep Wagoneer L in the full-size SUV market. The Jeep could be the Yukon XL’s closest non-GM competitor, as it is also positioned as a “semi-premium” vehicle with high-quality inside materials and a comprehensive list of standard comfort features.

There is still some information about the 2024 Yukon XL that has yet to be made public by GMC. We’ll revise our recommendation if necessary, but based on last year’s model, the Denali is where it’s at. Instead of settling for less with a Suburban, go all out with a Yukon XL.

Model GMC Yukon XL

Depending on the configuration, the GMC Yukon XL’s three rows of seating can accommodate as many as nine passengers. Available trims range from the base SLE to the high-end Denali Ultimate. Outside of the Denali and Denali Unlimited, all models include a 5.3-liter V8 engine (355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque). The larger V8 engine is an option for the AT4.

A 3.0 litre turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine can also be had. However, it’s more expensive in the SLE and SLT and less costly in the Denali and Denali Unlimited. The Yukon XL’s ten-speed automatic transmits power from either of its engines to the rear wheels. All versions, except the AT4 and the Denali Ultimate, provide the option of four-wheel drive.
