Our Opinion - 2024 Lexus NX Review

The 2024 NX SUV hides the same chassis as the Toyota RAV4 and Venza crossovers, and the Lexus name is known for comfort. It’s easier to tell how they’re alike once you park next to the Venza. The innards of most NX models are nice-looking and made of good materials. There are different types of powertrains, such as plug-in and hybrid models. The second one is a 302-horsepower engine from the updated RAV4 Prime. But don’t get me wrong—the NX is a softy who values a smooth ride over top-notch speed. For this reason, fans might like competition cars like the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class, BMW X1, or Audi Q3. The Lexus, on the other hand, is a great choice for more relaxed commutes and road trips because the front seats are very comfortable and great for long trips.

The 2024 NX hasn’t changed much in the two years since it received a complete makeover. There are now more uniform-colored accents inside the SUV, and the interior colors have been changed in a few places. The NX350h and NX450h+ models can now be parked remotely, and the NX450h+ F Sport can now have either a regular or panoramic sunroof.

The 2024 NX comes with four different engines. The base NX250 has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 hp, and the NX350 has a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 275 hp. There is an eight-speed automatic gearbox in both units. You can choose to have front-wheel drive on the NX250 or all-wheel drive on the NX350. You can choose between two different hybrids. Two electric motors and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine work together to give the NX350h 239 horsepower. The NX450h+, which uses the RAV4 Prime’s 302 horsepower plug-in hybrid engine, is the more interesting choice. The NX350h took 7.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the top-of-the-line NX450h+ did it in 5.6 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard on both hybrid types. The NX350, which was in the middle of the range, got to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds and was our first test-drive car. There was nothing special about the NX’s handling, but the ride was nice, and with a little help, we were able to smile a few times on the back roads. The NX isn’t as agile on rough ground as the BMW X1, even with the adaptive suspension technology in the F Sport model that makes the ride more stable and tightens it up.

Lexus includes a wide range of driver-assistance tools, which is standard on the NX. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking are expected to be standard on all versions. Watch the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) websites to learn more about the NX’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Most automatic emergency brakes detect road users.
  • A standard exit alarm that will keep you in your lane.

The latest version of NX has a much better cabin design, with a sleek look and high-quality materials. The NX has one of the roomiest cabins in the luxury subcompact crossover class. The back seat is bigger than many of its competitors, and when the back seats are folded down, it can hold more luggage than many of its rivals. A panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, an ambient interior lighting system with 64 color options, and black open-pore wood trim are all extras that can be added as options.

The EPA says that the hybrid NX350h is the most fuel-efficient NX type. It gets 41 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The best gas economy for the standard NX250 is 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The NX350 with turbocharger gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The EPA says that the NX450h+ plug-in hybrid’s battery pack has enough electrons to let the car go up to 37 miles on electricity alone before it needs to be charged again. The gas mileage is 38 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. On our highway test route going 75 mph, an all-wheel-drive NX350 got 28 mpg, but a hybrid NX350h only got 34 mpg.

Every NX model has a tablet infotainment system. The screens on the higher-end trims are 14.0 inches, while the screens on the base models are 9.8 inches. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both standard and link wirelessly. Head-up displays and a wireless charging station for smartphones are extras that can be added. On the Premium and Luxury models, you can get a Mark Levinson stereo system with 17 speakers. The basic model comes with a 10-speaker stereo system and a free trial of Amazon Music.

The base form of the NX starts at a little more than $40,000, which may be too simple for some high-end shoppers. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine in the mid-range NX350, which makes 275 horsepower, is more powerful. We suggest adding the Luxury package. It comes with a bigger 14.0-inch infotainment screen, quilted leather seats, better internal lighting, cloud-connected navigation, 20-inch wheels, four-way adjustable driver lumbar support, and adaptive headlamps. The NX350 F Sport is the same price as the NX350 and comes with the Luxury package. It has a more aggressive look and better speed.
