The 2025 Honda CR-V is in the middle. On one side are the bigger midsize Passport and Pilot, and on the other is the small HR-V. The 2023 remake of the CR-V keeps it as one of the best small SUVs in its class, just like it always has been. Since it was redone not long ago, it will not change much until 2025. Honda has always paid attention to what its customers want, which in this case is a small SUV that is easy to use and comfortable. Other car companies would focus on their off-road or performance skills, but the CR-V focuses on these important features. The seats are well-padded for long rides, and the suspension does a good job of smoothing out bumps in the road. Kids might feel less tired and sleep better in a quiet home. The CR-V has a huge 39.3 cubic feet of space behind its back seats, which makes it perfect for hauling bags, family stuff, or that new thing you bought at Costco. It’s almost impossible to beat the Honda CR-V. The Mazda CX-50 is a little more expensive and uses more gas, but we still love how fast it looks and how quickly it drives. But it’s a great choice if you value love over practicality. The Subaru Forester is very different; it focuses on all-weather performance with a touch of off-road exploring. A lot of people think that the CR-V is the most flexible option. Pros vs Cons Pros A big house that can hold a huge amount of stuff. Technology tools are easy to use. A ride that is smooth and easy. Cons There is a small space in the cabin for keeping small things. This type of engine can be slow and noisy when going up hills. Performance How does the CR-V get its power? The CR-V isn’t the fastest SUV on the track, but compared to other small SUVs, it seems calm and quick. Our test model of the hybrid Sport Touring went from 0 to 60 mph in 8.0 seconds. It takes about the same amount of time as a normal 1.5-liter engine, which is normal for the class. When there is an emergency, the brakes work great and make stopping easy. Another benefit of the hybrid system is that it drives smoothly in cities, but you may have to put your foot down a lot to get up steep mountain hills. The CR-V stays calm and in control when going around turns. There is enough feedback from the responsive handling to help you know what’s going on on the road. Comfort How nice is the inside of the CR-V? The CR-V is smooth to ride in. The suspension is soft, and it doesn’t feel light. There will be some bumps and cracks in the surface, but they quickly heal and return to being smooth without too much trouble. The beautiful pattern is still there on the inside. Honda still doesn’t offer a ventilated choice, but the heated and already-in-place front seats are soft and comfortable. You won’t hear any road noise while moving in the CR-V because it doesn’t feel like it lets air in or out. Sometimes, the hybrid engine is too loud and annoying to listen to, especially when going up the hill. What we don’t like about it is this. Interior How is the inside? The inside of the CR-V makes a lot of sense. There is plenty of room in both rows, and the big windows make the inside feel airy, which is nice in a small SUV. The amount of glass also makes it easier to see from the outside. The CR-V has Honda’s great wide-angle rearview camera, but it makes it harder to see out the back. The CR-V’s doors are big, and the seats are in good places, making it easy for people to get in and out. Also, it’s easy to relax because the backs of the back seats can be leaned back, and the front row seats can be moved far forward and backward. Technology What’s wrong with the tech? Even though the CR-V’s 7-inch touchscreen and optional 9-inch touchscreen aren’t the best in their class, the car’s operating system is easy to use and answers to touch. As usual, wireless connectivity is built in, so your phone can connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Even though the maps look basic, the Sport Touring’s built-in guidance system gives you helpful directions and suggestions. It’s too bad that the speech recognition could be better than some competitors, and it’s only offered on the top-level Sport Touring trim level. The improved driving aids, on the other hand, are truly amazing. Different CR-V types come with a lot of them as standard. The two most important ones, adaptive cruise control, and lane-centering steering, work really well. Storage What’s going on with storage? The CR-V can hold a lot of stuff because it has 39.3 cubic feet of room behind the back seats, which is a lot for a small SUV. In spite of its shallow depth, the container area has a lot of width and height so that it can fit big things. The good news is that, unlike the last generation, the CR-V can carry the same weight whether it is a hybrid or not. You’re not going to give up storage space to save fuel. Honda did not improve the storage space inside their cars, which is a shame. Large purses might fit through the older CR-V’s center tunnel and can be hollowed out and adjusted in many ways. Since then, that space has been shrunk down to a normal center bin. It’s easy to place child safety seats in the second row because the door openings are big, the attachment anchor points are close at hand, and there is plenty of legroom. Fuel Economy How much fuel does it use? The EPA says that the non-hybrid Honda CR-V cars get 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The hybrid can get up to 40 mpg, but with all-wheel drive, it only gets 37 mpg, which is even better for the environment. The second one was put to the test. It got a terrible 33.3 mpg on our real-world test trip. Still, the route is meant to be used on highways, and most of its rivals did badly in Invoice Pricing’s tests. The Kia Sportage Hybrid, for instance, got 34.5 mpg. We got better gas mileage when driving around town every day, which suggests that the CR-V’s hybrid engine might work better there. Value Is the CR-V worth anything? The CR-V is a well-made car, especially considering its cost. On the road, it sounds smooth and quiet, and the lack of squeaks and rattles is a sign of high-quality construction. Inside, there is a lot of rough plastic, but Honda hides it well with soft surfaces and some interesting design choices. The CR-V costs a lot more than many of its rivals, so if you want an affordable SUV, you can find better ones. The price is fair, though not very appealing, given the high quality. The warranty coverage could be better in its class; competitors offer better protection against rust, roadside help, and free maintenance. Wildcard When it comes to style, crosses aren’t as dull as they used to be. The Honda has a style that is both classy and understated, which makes the CR-V look very boring. This SUV doesn’t want to stand out; it wants to fit in. Still, the CR-V’s new look definitely brings it into the present day more than its predecessor. It’s fun to drive for short periods because it handles well for a crossover, and the controls are easy to use. But first and foremost, it is what makes sense. That’s why the CR-V should be popular with shoppers who have a lot of Excel files on hand. If you want to be inspired and excited about a small family SUV, you should look somewhere else. What is Invoice Pricing's Recommendation? As of this writing, Honda hasn’t made any public announcements about the 2025 CR-V. If something changes, we’ll let you know, but based on last year’s CR-V, we think the EX-L trim is the best choice. Even though it’s a mid-level option, it comes with almost everything you could want or need, like leather seats and a motorized liftgate. Types of Honda CR-V The Honda CR-V comes in six different models: LX, EX, Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Sport Touring. The LX, EX, and EX-L models have a four-cylinder turbocharged engine, while the Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring models have a hybrid motor that gets better gas mileage. The most common CR-V setup is front-wheel drive, but most of the models come with all-wheel drive.
