Our Opinion - 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Review

For decades, the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling car in the country. It has also been America’s second-most-popular vehicle in 2023. It is still a reliable full-size pickup truck that can be used anywhere, like on building sites, in warehouses, or on ranches. Not only can it move your family, but it can also move your boat, trailer, or other plaything. It could also be any of them. Different types of engines can be used for different tasks. These include the cheap Duramax diesel, one of two V-8s, or a turbocharged four-cylinder. The Silverado can be rough at times because it is a real pickup truck. The bigger V-8, on the other hand, is shockingly smooth and strong. Ascending inside, you’ll find rooms that range from very basic to very fancy. However, it offers a more refined and practical appeal compared to the Ram 1500’s top-line luxury. For people who spend a lot of time hiking through mud and muck, there is the Silverado 1500 ZR2, which is reviewed separately. For people who don’t want to use gasoline, there is the battery-electric Silverado EV.

The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be available in two new paint colors: Cypress Gray and Riptide Blue Metallic. Work trucks will also have a new Universal Vehicle Module that police officers can use. The 2025 model comes in Work Truck, Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, and High Country styles. The Trail Boss is the only one that can only be bought with four-wheel drive.

Pros

  • Different types of powertrains.
  • Because the ZR2 can go off-road.
  • Several types of high-tech.

Cons

  • The front fascia is almost insulting.
  • In cheaper trim levels, you can get simple interiors.
  • It’s not possible to ride more smoothly on some types.

There are several engines in the Silverado 1500, such as a 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel, two V-8s, and a turbocharged four-cylinder. This means that the truck can be powered for any job or journey. The 6.2-liter V-8 makes 420 horsepower, while the 5.3-liter V-8 makes 355 horsepower. The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 310 horsepower, while the diesel makes 277. Every Silverado we’ve driven has felt smaller than it really was. The truck handles surprisingly well, and the stop pedal is strong and comfortable. If you want a more sturdy half-ton Silverado, the Trail Boss model is the best choice. It’s easier and more fun to take the less-traveled road thanks to its bad tires, 2-inch rise, and other improvements. The ZR2 is the most important off-road car, so we look at it separately.

The Silverado comes with a lot of great features that help the driver, and you can also get a variety of towing aids that make hooking up and towing a trailer easy. The top-of-the-line High Country comes with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driving technology that Chevy says works even when pulling a trailer. The following are important safety features:

  • Emergency brakes that work on their own and regular forward crash warnings.
  • Blind-spot detection and back cross-traffic alert are standard features.
  • Normal lane exit warning and help staying in your lane.

You can make the Silverado your own in a number of ways, from the basic Work Truck to the fully loaded High Country. Base models have only the bare necessities, like leather seats, front seats that can be adjusted by hand, and locks and windows that must be opened and closed by hand. But starting with the LT level, the dashboard looks better and has a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a big touchscreen in the middle. This makes the cabin look much more high-end. The open-pore wood trim and leather seats inside the High Country make the inside look especially nice. The crew cab has a wide back seat with lots of legroom, but we didn’t like the bumpers. Even so, this is a useful carrier because it has smartly put storage sections all over the inside. The Chevy doesn’t have the half-ton Sierra’s carbon-fiber-reinforced cargo bed, but it does have a similar door called Multi-Flex that can be used for different things. Fans of the classic style will also like the Chevy, which comes in a variety of bed sizes.

You can choose from a few more fuel-efficient Silverado 1500 powertrains but don’t think that you’ll save money on gas. It gets up to 33 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in the city, according to the EPA. This makes the diesel the most fuel-efficient. If you add four-wheel drive, it drops to 26 mpg on the highway, which is the same gas mileage we saw on our 75 mph usage route. Up to 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway are claimed for the gas-fed turbo-four with four-wheel drive. We found that the Silverado’s most fuel-efficient engine, the 5.3-liter V-8 with four-wheel drive and up to 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, was actually more fuel-efficient than the smallest engine, the turbocharged four-cylinder: the V-8 got 21 mpg in our tests, while the turbo-four only got 18 mpg. The 6.2-liter V-8 can get up to 16/21 mpg in the city and on the highway. It got 19 mpg on the highway, which was better than the turbo-four in our real-world test.

Every Silverado 1500 model comes with a tablet entertainment system that works with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. The physical knobs and buttons make the device easy to use, and we liked how quickly the screen replied to our touches. Models with an LT grade or higher have a 13.4-inch horizontal touchscreen and more features, such as a voice assistant driven by Google, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the ability to connect to Amazon Alexa.

We tried to let the bigger 6.2-liter V-8 engine in the Silverado High Country go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. The smaller 5.3-liter engine with 355 horsepower, on the other hand, took 6.1 seconds. While the diesel-powered Silverado we drove had the slowest pace in the group, it was very smooth and quiet to drive.

The half-ton Silverado can pull up to 13,300 pounds, which makes it a very strong carrier. The F-150 can pull up to 700 pounds more than this truck, but the Ram 1500 can only pull 550 pounds. Tow up to 11,500 pounds with the 6.2-liter V-8 Chevy engine or up to 11,500 pounds with the 5.3-liter engine. Engines with four cylinders and turbochargers can pull up to 9,500 pounds. The Chevy pickup’s powertrains aren’t as important when it comes to its payload, which is between 1,870 and 2,280 pounds.

The price of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 could range from $37,645 to $64,695, depending on the choices and specs. The better cabin is in the LT model, which is why it’s the best choice. However, the base Work Truck and Custom trims are great for contractors and people on a tight budget. We would also add a crew cab and a standard-length bed to our Silverado to make the most room for people and their stuff. We would choose the 5.3-liter V-8 engine over the diesel engine because it is faster and costs less. Unlike the basic turbo-four, the V-8 lets us choose the Z71 Off-Road package, which has a number of better hardware features that make playing in the mud and dirt more fun.
